Added 2019-05-01 04:00:32 +0000 UTCThere are lots of little details I've tossed around in me brainstuffs when it comes to the ridiculously older characters like our portly spear-friend here, but the most pertinent on this page are teeth. His surely must be false. The market for dentures in Alderode has got to be enormous as teeth just don't last a century, even if the rest of your body ages with unnatural slowness.
Otherwise, in my experience, quite older people are only as serene as their aching bodies force them to be, and mentally they're not much different than a thirty year old. Wiser, more familiar with the ways of the world, aware that there's not too much worth getting worked up over; but still just idiotic humans.
That's frankly something I really enjoy about the different castes of Alderode. No one has earned their long life or their short life by dint of their temperament, achievements, or intellect. Some people are simply born lucky, and others less so.

And part of being Aldishmen is you are one of the Aldish castes. And depending on your caste, you have the potential to live either a very long or very short time. And all of this is contingent on Alderode's specialised khert, which is called the Dammakhert. How this system came about, precisely how it functions and why, are all generally unknown. Alds think it is a blessing that makes their country strong. Foreigners think it's a godsdamned curse.
