I like how Vampire talks. It's old-timey, goofy, and a little endearing to me. How seriously can you take anyone who calls dudes "knaves?" Pack it up, Beardo.
Anyway, it was a fun excuse to research lots of archaic words. Not only archaic words but ways in which extant words were once used differently. I tried to keep his dialogue coherent in context but I could have gone waaaay off the deep end.
Vampire's an obsessively private man and we don't get to find out a lot about him. The "Vampire" handle isn't just for giggles; he's gone to great lengths to hide his past and his identity. Even Roger Foi-Hellick doesn't know his last name. Of course in a country where your full name can be used to strike you dead, this seems like a smart way to be.
Captain Claggart just casually trying to trade his life for everyone else's there, no big deal, best character.
