So younger bastion must have been off on his pain theory, since duane's death appeared to be painful both mentally and physically.... But then,we were outside observers and you indicate that we didn't see all of it.... Oh, patience has NEVER been one of my virtues! It is in my nature to wait until a story is complete before reading, but this is too good to resist. Even storing up a month's worth of posts takes all i have. Worth it though!

Mm, another hint would be it has to do with the nature of his death, but even then we haven't gotten to the part of the story that will shed light on that. You're missing some bits. It'll all come out in due course though! However it's not really that important, unless the nature of the pymary in play intrigues you. The most important bit is what we know already - that it can only be done to a tacit caster. In the future, this will be crucial to where the story goes.

I knew about the tacit part but still haven't figured out how the soul has been tethered to the body. I feel like I should have. I think the plod Wrangler at the Nevergreen spotted something, but he never got to explain what it was. So, I'm frustrated by my inability to grasp it and seeking other hints!!

Yep, there's a very specific reason why Soud aren't affected by the Etalarche curse and the Dammakhert in general. We'll learn it when we learn the origin of the Dammakhert itself. Bastion would hate Roger on sight just like everyone else! So would Matty and Quigley. What Bastion did to Duane probably only worked because Duane is a tacit caster (this hasn't been confirmed in the comic, but some big hints have been dropped). So it would only work on a tacit caster. If Duane were a Plat or a Copper tacit caster? Still would have worked.

Will we ever find out why sounds aren't effected by the etalarch curse? Would Bastion also hate Roger on sight? Would what Bastion did to Duane have worked on a plat or a copper? (There may just possibly be at least one question in this batch that you are able to answer for me--assuming you even see a comment on a two-month old Post! 😉)
