Optimus Prime dying was a huge buzz back in the day, to the point kids who watched this movie were left traumatized by the loss of their hero, some even locked themselves in their rooms and refused to go out. Nowadays its sadly a meme that Optimus dies at least once in every Transformers continuity, but back then it was something else. I love how poignantly his death scene is played here, especially with the music playing in the background. It goes from dread, to sorrow, to despair, to hope and then despair and grief.
