In this classic Walt Disney animation based on Rudyard Kipling's book, Mowgli, an abandoned child raised by wolves, has his peaceful existence threatened by the return of the man-eating tiger Shere Khan (George Sanders). Facing certain death, Mowgli must overcome his reluctance to leave his wolf family and return to the "man village." Oh yeah this is another one of my favorites! Especially because of Baloo, King Louie and his wisecracking monkeys, Colonel Hathi & his marching elephants and the Vultures and their songs "Bare Necessities" , "I wanna be like you" and "That's what friends are for". Also "KAA!!! HOLD IT KAA!!!" , "It's Baloo and King Louie's part were always SOOOO damn funny! lol

Jungle Book Facts: Okay so when it was first coming about the person who Walt put in charge of the story was Bill Peet who worked on Sword in the Stone and Walt liked what he did with it, Disney was not pleased with how the story was turning out, as he felt it was too dark for family viewing and insisted on script changes. Peet refused, and after a long argument, Peet left the Disney studio in January 1964. but thankfully made up before Walt died. Disney then assigned Larry Clemmons as his new writer and one of the four-story men for the film, giving Clemmons a copy of Kipling's book, and telling him: "The first thing I want you to do is not to read it". Clemmons still looked at the novel and thought it was too disjointed and without continuity, needing adaptations to fit a film script. Clemmons wanted to start in medias res, with some flashbacks afterward, but then Disney said to focus on doing the storyline more straight: "Let's do the meat of the picture. Let's establish the characters. Let's have fun with it". So after Bill was kicked off Walt had gathered a whole new group to work on the film and asked how many have read the Jungle Book to which no one raised their hands and he said Good don’t and threw out everything that was associated with the original version, but everyone on the project begged Walt to keep one song that had been written to be left in which was The Bare Necessities and it ended up being nominated for Best Original Song and unfortunately lost to Talk to the Animals from Dr. Doolittle, With Walt being involved hands on in the film was a big deal as his attention was more occupied with Disneyland and his television shows and so this brought the spark back to him for animation and the human girl was thought of as a lure for Mowgli to leave the jungle, The rest of the songs were written by the long time song team of the Studio the Sherman Brothers and one of the songs was an unused song from Mary Popping called The Land of Sand and was reworked into Trust in Me for this film, That’s What Friends Are For and the characters of the Vultures were supposed to have been performed by the Beatles, but they turned it down which is why they all have Liverpool accents and the song itself was supposed to have a rock sound, but Walt thought it would date the film so it was changed to a barbershop chorus sound, The character of King Louie was original to the story and was supposed to have been played by Trumpet legend Louis Armstrong, but he turned it down and so they ended up going with Louis Prima and the rest of his band was the backup singers, The rest of the voice cast include: Phil Harris as Baloo is also heard in Robin Hood and The AristoCats, and Phil improvised a majority of his lines, Sebastian Cabot as Bagherra was in The Sword in the Stone and the Narrator for the Winnie the Pooh projects, Sterling Holloway as Kaa can also be heard as Winnie the Pooh, and in Dumbo, Bambi, the Cheshire Cat in Alice in Wonderland, and The AristoCats, J. Pat O Malley who voiced Colonel Haiti was previously heard in Alice in Wonderland as TweedleDee/Dum/Walrus/Carpenter, Jasper/Colonel in 101 Dalmatians, and several animated characters in Mary Poppins, this was the last film of Verna Felton who died the same day as Walt in 1966 she was the voice of the elephant Winifred and in Dumbo, the Fairy Godmother in Cinderella, the Queen of Hearts in Alice in Wonderland, Aunt Sarah in Lady and the Tramp, and Flora in Sleeping Beauty, The voice of the elephant Junior is Clint Howard who is director/actor Ron Howard’s younger brother who is always put in his brother’s films and Clint was also the voice of Roo in the first two Winnie the Pooh Featuettes- Honey Tree and Blustery Day, The reason Shere Khan is not in the film until the last 3rd is because he has been built up through his name and reputation and so when he finally does appear you can see how intimidating he is and his love of making sport out of his prey, but still has a sophistication and intelligence to him, That sad medley that happens when Baloo is thought dead is heard in previous Disney films of Sleeping Beauty, 101 Dalmatians, and Sword in the Stone, The story people knew that at the end of the film that Mowgli would go to the Man Village, but were not sure how to come about with it and I tihnk it was Walt who realized it should be a girl who lures him in and in fact the medley of My Own Home play throughout the film, When it shows the sunset at the end the animators said it best that is how Walt went out.. into the sunset and when the film was released in Christmas a year after Walt’s death it was a smash hit at the box office,
