Nobleman crusader Robin of Locksley breaks out of a Jerusalem prison with the help of fellow prisoner Azeem, a Moor, and travels back home to England. Upon arrival, Robin discovers his father dead in the ruins of his family estate, killed by the vicious sheriff of Nottingham. Robin and Azeem join forces with outlaws Little John and Will Scarlett to save the kingdom from the sheriff's villainy.

There is only two things this film gave us as a result of it existing that I am glad for: Mel Brooks parody Men in Tights, and the great overture music that would become used by Disney over a decade later. The problem I have with this besides Kevin Costner as Robin Hood is how dark and lifeless the film is. Look you can have serious things, but Robin Hood is a character that is a beacon of hope for those without it and that is what all modern tellings that want to be more serious are missing that if they have no fun, no adventure, no humor, and just are colorless and depressing it will equal mature and deep.
