Lord help me

Good morning!

A friend and I were talking about The Chosen and some of the people and the choices they made and how easy it is to see them in the “wrong” when we stand on the outside looking at them.

But it occurred to me how I have been Nicodemus - the Pharisee who saw Jesus as God but chose to follow the old, safe religious system. Oh the pain he experienced inside for trying to preserve outward appearances!

Peter- denying Christ…..how many times have I denied Jesus in different ways? I have lost count.

The prideful disciples who thought they were doing pretty well……The religious people who were smug in their rituals.

I am all of them! I have been all of them! But, the amazing thing is that Jesus looked at all of them and loved them all. He let them all choose their way, but He loved, spoke truth and then let them decide.

I pray to always choose Jesus’ way. I pray that I don’t become or remain smug in anything that I think I’m pretty good at, doing pretty well at or somehow think I’ve arrived.

But he gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says: “God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.” James 4:6
