Encounter God’s Heart...
Vulnerable Moments
Our reactions to disappointment and frustration pique the enemy’s attention. Sin crouches outside the doors of our hearts, waiting for an opportunity to root itself and skew our objectivity. It’s easier to justify bad attitudes than to prostrate ourselves before the Lord. It takes zero effort to yield to fleshly reactions. Confessing bad attitudes takes honesty and vulnerability. But an honest and contrite heart draws the strengthening grace of God.
When we choose to yield our will and our right to defend ourselves, we’re empowered to overcome. This ongoing decision to embrace a Christlike mindset becomes easier each time. Falling at the feet of Jesus with messy tears of surrender invites the glory of his grace. And when we’re smeared with the oil of God’s presence, burdens slide right off.
Father, pour out your empowering grace. When storms rage against my soul and injustices push me to react, help me to remember that there is something greater at risk—my sensitivity to your Spirit. I don’t want to become accustomed to reacting but to be acquainted with the higher ways of your Spirit. Give me the courage to inspect my attitudes and to get to the root of them with you.
From "Firstfruits" written by Brian Simmons and Gretchen Rodriguez
Genesis 4:7
The Passion Translation
“If you refuse to offer what is right, sin, the predator, is crouching in wait outside the door of your heart. It desires to have you, yet you must be its master.”
