Good morning!

Do people ruin things for you? Does the way people act cause you to get upset, frustrated, angry? Can people ruin your dreams?

You probably know where I am headed with this but I am going to hash it out anyway! πŸ™‚

Merlin Carothers, in his book Praise Works, received a letter from a man that said he had started a business but the partners he selected turned out to be lazy and thieves. He asked Merlin, β€œDo you think I should praise the Lord for the people who ruined my dream?”

Merlin’s reply, β€œRuined his dream? People don’t do that! We can only do that to ourselves. We decide how other people’s actions will influence us! We decide!”

He goes on to tell of another man who had a dream. He was an inventor and several men who saw his talent and idea decided to invest and form a company. The company took off and the ideas worked. But as the investors became impatient, they forced the inventor out of the company and even controlled his patents.

Although the inventor’s dreams were temporarily interrupted, he kept working.

Henry Ford is the inventor.

Blessed and happy is the one who learns to not be controlled by what other people do but believes and trusts that God is in control! He permits some people to come in to our lives and some to exit. And He knows that timing.

Let  us examine our ways and test them….Let us lift up our hearts and hands to God in heaven….For His compassions never fail, they are new every morning. Great is Your faithfulness. (Lamentations 3:22-23, 40-41 NIV)

I love how you used that metaphor. We need to think like this

Amen, a dry season or a fire may stunt a trees growth, and the memory will be visible in it's rings once it is cut. But the tree keeps growing, the subsequent rings show adequate water, light and growth. That one bad ring doesn't hinder the tree because it has a million years of history with it's creator that says, "it's only a season, it will pass, trust me". Why can't we learn the lessons that God teaches us in nature.
