Good morning!
A fascinating conversation with my 18-year-old son had me considering much about life. The things we talked about meandered a bit but overall, the depth of his thoughts and how he processes all that is going on around him was quite interesting.
As he sees it, he has a moral compass and a faith in his unchanging God. Because he has that, he feels he can understand things in the world and he can learn how to grow in his mental strength.
So much of culture and what is seen in the world is based on feelings. Feelings change. Feelings are not the best guide. However, the unchanging nature of God gives a foundation, an anchor and hope in the world that is all over the place.
It is so hopeful to hear young people talk and for them to see the problems in the world and want to change things. Both my son and my daughter are part of a growing population of “kids” that have pre-determined that they won’t let their kids grow up glued to devices/screens.
As my son puts his thoughts out into the social media world, he knows his opinions may not be the majority, but he doesn’t care. He says that sometimes he cannot help himself! He has to say something. That is something that comes with a passion for something more. As he said, he doesn’t have the desire to make someone feel wrong about their opinion, but maybe to think about another way that may make their life better.
He noted how selfish the world has become and the drive for money and fame has left people with depression. He sees how there is so much more to life and those pursuits are so empty.
I pray for the next generation and all that they are processing. May they find the unchangeable hope in the Lord and all that He offers in this flaky world!
Guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long. Psalm 25:5
