Good morning!

My daughter Thalia and I were discussing a verse that we both had focused on the same day. I had been reading in the Bible, then later was on my YouVersion Bible app and the same verse came up. Later, she told me she doesn’t go on the Bible app often but she had that day and the verse she honed in on was the same verse.

Trust in the Lord with your whole heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will direct your paths. Proverbs 3:5-6

Our hearts are often considered the seat of our emotions….our feelings. How often do I allow my feelings to rule my understanding, though? How often do my thoughts come from how I feel? Way too often.

The Bible says the heart is deceitful above all things. Who can trust it? Jeremiah 17:9

But the world tells us to follow our hearts!

So, what is right?

Most of us can admit that following our feelings has not caused us to be on the best path most of the time. Feelings are not meant to be our master. Our own understanding is often also misguided. So, I don’t think following our own flaky feelings/heart is in our best interest of that of others!

The best news is that we can talk to God, let Him tell us what to think via His Word and we can get direction from the changeless Creator of the universe!

Reflection: Where do I lean on my own understanding? Where do I let feelings guide me?
