Patreon benefit update!

Our first month is going strong, and we're thrilled that you've been with us through our transition. Today we have two benefits we're happy to share with you. Benefit #1: Full Text RSS Feed The Feed URL: http://feeds.feedburner.com/BlizzardWatchFullText Earlier this week we had to turn off the full text feed -- other sites were already scraping our content and it's not fair to our writers to let them do that in such an easy and automated way. So while the normal RSS feed is giving excerpts from the articles, as a backer you can access the full text RSS feed from the URL above. Benefit #2: Ad Free Just go to http://www.blizzardwatch.com/supporter-login and enter the email address you used to register on Patreon. When you do, ads will be turned off until July 2015. After July you'll need to enter your email address again. Bonus Benefit For Everyone: Weekly Newsletter Launching on Tuesday, March 3rd, Blizzard Watch will deliver you the week’s top news, features, and opinions right to your inbox. You’ll also get to hear bits of lore and other random thoughts that are floating around the heads of our staff — things like musings on who exactly is Khadgar. Occasionally we’ll also send out major breaking news, like a new expansion or a major patch. We won’t spam your inbox or give your email away — we promise. We hate lists that send out junk every day. That won’t be us at all. Ready to sign up? Go to http://www.blizzardwatch.com/newsletter and enter your email address. If you have any questions, please reach out to us at backers@blizzardwatch.com and we'll get back to you right away. Thank you for supporting us! Heya folks, if you're having problems with the add free option not working for you, email me at adam@blizzardwatch.com and I'll figure it out :) Thanks!

Adam Holisky

It seems the Ad Free option is not working for me. I am using the correct email but it just defaults back to the same page and the ads at the top and sides are still there.

ArchonJonus

While thanks for the options of an ad-free version for backers, I have no problem in seeing some ads if it means greater support for BW. I don't want to see you guys be at risk for disappearing again!

Wes Orlik

For now, we're operating on an honor system.

Blizzard Watch

As someone who asked for the return of the full text feed, I'm stoked that it happened and my feed reader is working perfectly again. But I feel obligated in the interest of full disclosure to ask if I'm missing something; there appears to be no supporter login of any kind preventing others from accessing this feed? Is this just a good faith/honor system feed that you're hoping will cut down on the content theft? Fingers crossed that this works out for everyone in question. And since good faith should be responded to in kind, I think I'll decline to enable ad-free... you're welcome to my fractional pennies for when I do load the full site.

If there is patron-only content that we do, then we'll make disabling ads one option in a multi-option thing. As far as the timeout, I believe we always deliver the latest 10, but I know that in some readers you can set it up to continue to go back, which we should support. Let me know your experience and I'll try to improve it if it's not optimal :)

Adam Holisky

Thank you.

Wow, this is fantastic - allowing us to opt for a true subscription-only model shows great respect your patrons. If we do not use the supporter login, will we still be able to see patron-only content on BW, should there be any? i.e. does it have any effect apart from removing the ads? Also does anyone know the timeout for the BW RSS feed articles? I use the feed as the primary means of reading the site (I open the articles I want to read in the browser though) but I cannot always fire up the RSS reader each day. On many feeds, the articles timeout after 24 hours and if I don't scrape every day I miss some articles.

It's awesome to see and energy and excitement that was starting to fade at the prior location. I'm more than happy to pay monthly to help make this happen. Thanks!

Newsletter link should be fixed. If disabling ads isn't working, please email backers@blizzardwatch.com and we'll investigate. We'll be taking a monthly snapshot of backers and adding them in batches, but if someone signs up between snapshots, we'll need to add those manually.

Blizzard Watch

Unsure if it's activated. I put in my email, but the ads keep showing.

Cladriah

Woot! Great stuff, thanks.

Mary McKinnon

Thanks for all of these options. The link for the newsletter is not working, to many slashes
