Behind the Scenes: Alex and Adam Uncensored

Hello Patreons!

We're doing something a little...different...for this week's Behind the Scenes podcast. In this episode you're getting a big update on Blizzard Watch from Alex and Adam, for an hour and fifteen minutes. There's not a topic we avoid, and we're completely honest (potentially too much so?). We cover everything from financial status, to growth success and pains, to what we want to do in 2016 and far out in the future.

We had a blast recording it, and we hope you enjoy listening! Please do leave us feedback though, we're very serious about how important your thoughts and opinions are to us. Just keep in mind that everything you're listening to, especially plans for the future, are just ideas and plans -- and those things are meant to be changed! So no promises ;)

That said... enjoy! You can listen right here: https://soundcloud.com/blizzardwatch/behind-the-scenes-at-blizzard-watch-alex-and-adam-uncensored/s-5qPS1

Great episode, and really interesting to hear some of the ideas for growth you guys have. It occurred to me if you aren't 100% comfortable with the idea of creating a page with all the books that Blizzard Watch writers have written, why not include an "Other works by this Author" link on each writer's information page?

Francis Di Domizio

Agree :)

Why don't you combine your idea for a forum with the idea for more patreon rewards by limiting the forums to patreons only?

What an interesting and honest episode. You mentioned more Patron benefits. If you gave Patron subscribers direct links to your books we could give feedback here. The comments would become a review that could be abridged into a real review for the Tavern. And just a thought about the Tavern. Give Patrons automatic access to both sites. Buy one get one free! And its nice two way traffic for people who join up for the Tavern and discover BW. Cheers, and keep up the good work .

Also, John Scalzi (whatever.scalzi.com) has written plenty things about publishing and community commenting on his own blog (whether you like his work or not, he's been in the business and is a former employee of AOL). Speaking of stuff for Blizzardwatch, it seems like a lot of the gold and economy focused bloggers have moved on from blogging, so it would be nice to see a more regular economy blog. I started reading the old Wow Insider blog just for Rossi's Warrior blogging, and made a Patreon account just to support Blizzardwatch. You are only limited by creativity, time and money :-), so good luck! 2/2

Wow, what a great podcast! I've never listened to the behind the scenes one before and was intrigued by the description. Starting a business is hard, and internet publishing is definitely in a state of constant chaos at the moment. I've also been wondering how solvent you guys are and am glad you are not deep in debt (on this business venture), which would probably hasten your demise, or encourage you to sell to a larger company, like Gawker media. (i am so so sad at the impending demise of the Io9 blog, as it is a favorite for me). In terms of creating a community, you might think about reaching out to Drew Curtis (Fark.com). Whether you love or hate the site, it is monitored by combination of self-monitoring and 'volunteers', as well as paid (I think). 1/2

Nice to hear some of all of the ideas you have for the site, looking forward for what you will do with it (and the new layout :-)

Speaking of community content, I'd love to see some more stuff from over the European side of things. You've spoken in the past of how it's difficult to work with people from overseas, both in terms of timezones and taxes/legal issues. Community content kind of gets around it, and as a European reader, Blizzard Watch often seems very US-centric (which is to be expected). But we're a global community, and would be nice to get some more global perspectives. Heck, I'd be interested to hear how the Oceania guys are doing now that they have their own servers!

I would love to see some community created content on the site. Maybe an occasional breakfast topic written by a regular reader. Could possibly open it to patrons, like allowing us to submit breakfast topics to a specific email address, and once or twice a week a submission is chosen for that day's topic.
