The idea is not something new -- an app for our phones that lets us battle with our WoW pets.
Since pet battles were introduced with Cataclysm there has been constant talk of an app for them. Even Blizzard's devs have said it's a cool idea; but sadly throughout the years nothing has materialized. We've barely had any major change to the system itself since it was launched. Sure, new pets have been added and new challenges introduced, but the basic system hasn't changed much -- despite pretty direct interest on Blizzard's part of implementing a breeding system (like Pokemon) and other improvements.
The thing about Blizzard tough is it likes to do stuff in a big way. Nothing is really released small and at a trickle, it makes a splash and then it's supported. Think through their games, especially WoW. You get a big expansion, then patches (not as many as we may like, but still). Pet battles? Perfect time for making a new splash and introducing version 2.0. And what would come perfect with that? My plea.
My plea to Blizzard is simple (and I know several of you out there are on Patreon, so hopefully you'll hear it) -- please, let this be the year that we get the pet battle app. Let this be the year we get the next iteration of pet battles. Take advantage of the market, the demand, and create the next killer app. Make it easy to learn and hard to master. Make it Pokemon for adults. You'll be making more money again than you know what to do with.
It's time.
