Lore Watch Episode 88: Azshara’s connections to…Azeroth?

This week our Lore Watchers Anne, Matt, and Joe dive into the mailbag to answer your questions. This time around it’s a discussion about priests versus paladins, an exploration into Orcish etymology, some good sources of loa lore, an exploration into those Artifact weapons we left behind, and a gigantic mind-boggling tangent in which the connections between Azshara, Illidan, Malfurion, and Azeroth are explored.

For Patrons, we're happy to give you access to the episode before everyone else - enjoy it right over here on SoundCloud! Note that if you want to you can download it from SoundCloud onto your favorite device. And as always, let us know what you think. Thanks for listening!

Lore Watch Episode 88: Azshara’s connections to…Azeroth?

I have had this theory myself of Azshara as an avatar of Azeroth for a while, and I’m so happy to hear you guys talk about it. I liked the idea of speaker, and that could be a possibility as well. Considering how powerful she was, and drawing on the Well of Eternity...basically titan blood... it all makes sense. I really hope we do not kill her.

You finally arrived at my favorite pet theory of the last year, that Azshara is an avatar of Azeroth :) Speaker is a good idea as well, but I believe that she was selected before she was even born, and infused with even more of her power. Azeroth is basically sleeping, while her consciousness is more or less oblivious inside Azshara. While it would indeed be criminal to kill off Azshara in this expansion, she will meet her end eventually, and if we haven't cleansed either the body or the mind before they merge again... - - - Regarding free will: isn't it basically a form of chaos? The Titans are (originally) creatures of order, of law: they always know what they should do, there is only one course of action in any given scenario. Their constructs are similar, but more susceptible to even tiny influences of the Void, causing self-reflection, decisions and ultimately doubt. This mix of Order and Chaos is not inherently bad, at least by our (as in the mortal inhabitants of the universe) standards, because it defines Life, that which makes us who we are.
