Newsletter: week of 5/5

It started with a Nokia 2780, which has a surprisingly capable 5-megapixel camera (see below). It then sat in the Minimal Phone, which is a buggy mess. Then I had it in the Light Phone III, the Pixel 9a, and back to the S25 Ultra, which I have been daily driving for the last few months.
So if I missed your call or text, I am sorry.
I will publish a video explaining all of this on Sunday (I think), but for now, all I have to say is that the phone you use doesn't matter. It's easy to get caught up in ecosystems, colored bubbles, and camera specs, but I've found that I'm the same terrible texter and untimely responder no matter what phone I'm using 😅.
Oh, but the more time I spend in the Android ecosystem, the more certain I am that it is WORLDS better than iOS, which feels increasingly dated and clunky.

The Surface Pro 12 is smaller and does not have a Surface Connect port or removable storage. I know this is just one device, but this year's tech trend is shaping up to be "how can we charge more for less?"
Oh no, Google is turning everything into a podcast
I love watching Andru's videos because he was a podcaster first and doesn't know, and therefore doesn't follow, any video making stereotypes like having perfect A-roll or typical music. It's awesome.

image processing for days, I hear you there. I can't confidently say that it has gotten any better :/ but I also carry a stand alone camera with me everywhere, so I don't rely on my phone too much.

2025-05-10 02:58:36 +0000 UTCI was checking in on my dev Android (Pixel 6 Pro) the other day, and I feel you here. There are so many neat little innovations. Like holding up your palm to the camera to start a countdown timer! However, the image processing makes me sad, I wish I could turn it off. Maybe it's better in the new Pixels?
