Pachter Factor Questions March 2019

Hey Pach, The NPD game sales numbers for Nintendo games do not include digital sales. They do, however, include digital sales for Microsoft and Sony games. Does the NPD get those numbers directly from Microsoft and Sony or does the NPD get them some other way?

Hey Pach, what do you think of the possibility that Nintendo will pick up Scalebound which was a former Xbox exclusive that they cancelled?

Rumours are that the relationship between Microsoft and Nintendo are getting even cozier with Xbox Live and Game Pass both appearing on Switch. What are your thoughts on this and how will this impact future Xbox hardware sales? Do you think Sony will ever be this welcoming and if not, why? Thanks Michael.

You have data already for sales on Crackdown 3? I think you mean poor reviews, but Game Pass will allow greater exposure to the game. Phil Spencer has already commented on how Game Pass is actually helping sales, not hindering them.

Hi, I'm a fan of playing games on the original hardware and I love retro gaming. Over time it has become more difficult and expensive to find older and rare games. I understand that in this digital future we are moving away from physical media, but there is still a large part of the gaming community that likes to play physical games on original hardware. Do you think it would ever be possible for a company to work out deals that would allow them to manufacture and sell new versions of retro games for the original hardware?

With the poor sales of Crackdown 3 do you think that all of Microsoft's first-party games going forward will also have has poor of sales because of games pass ?

Hello Pach. With Activision's value having grown in 6 years from $10 billion to $60 billion, only to lose half that valuation within a 5 month period, as-well-as reporting record revenue while laying off nearly 800 people in-the-same week, is it safe to say Activision's growth is unsustainable? And it is even possible for large 3rd party publishers to invest & structure themselves more sustainably? If so, how would that company take shape? If not, why would that be the case?

Hey Pach. With the surprise success of Apex Legends and middling reception of Anthem, what do you believe this will mean for EA as a company and also for it's studios Respawn and Bioware?

Hi Pach--the market indicators for the major video game companies (Activision, Take Two, EA) continue to be soft. Does this signal an new era for those companies?

Rumors are flying about gamepass on switch. If this really is a thing, is Microsoft about to explode with content across all possible platforms? Does this solidify Nintendo's continual mantra that they're, "not in competition with Microsoft and Sony"? Will Gamepass wind up on PS4/PS5?

Mr. Pachter, why do you believe Activision is publishing Sekiro Shadows Die Twice from From Soft? It doesnt seem to fit their business strategy of yearly releases. Do you think we could see more deals like this with third party developers in an attempt to fill the void left by Destiny?

Seeing February's Nintendo Direct, is rise of quantity of game releases break the company's third party blues?

Hi Pachter, is crowed funding still relevant? it seams that when these crowed funded games come out they dont seem to be what they promised or the quality of the game is not to par the studio made games. mind u they have a smaller budget but for the years they spend on making it just not really ground breaking. case in point mighty no. 9, yooka laylee or lots that havent even come out at all. they just took there money and walked away. the reason i bring this up shenmue 3. if this game does not live up to the hype do u think this will be the end for crowd funded games in a big way?

Hi, @michaelpachter If you were Amazon, or Apple, how would you disrupt the games industry, if part of that plan was buying a company, which of the big game companies would you buy and why? Thanks Pach!

Pach-man! We have heard you say, consoles will come to an end. Would the big 3 really want that? Would they profit more by not giving up on consoles or profit more by unifying with a shared platform?
