The Grind: June 20, 2018

You said you loved our E3 diaries and we've responded with a new show. In the first episode we discuss the E3 2018 hangover, Octopath Traveler, and the Cyberpunk 2077 audio demo that we published yesterday and was taken down almost immediately.

I've literally been working as a games journalist for 20 years and have a journalism degree. I think I have a good idea of what I can and cannot do. I'm willing to make sacrifices to do my job. That's what journalists do. I realize this may be a foreign concept to some folks because very few people who cover games act like actual journalists.

Of course you are not supposed to record audio when you get a behind the scenes look and they ask you not to record (video). On top of that, since you run everything yourself, you can't afford pissing off the devs..

Really like these short segments

The amount of pin action we'd get from something like that is minimal. We were sunk as soon as CDPR struck the video down on YouTube. I knew others were going to end up getting the credit.

Ah, I understand your point. My only thought was it would be cool for a PCGamer article to read something like "It seems that the Cyberpunk 2077 demo audio has been posted online. The recording is attributed to Shane Satterfield of SIFTD, but the original copy has been taken down." Just getting the site out there, free publicity, but I see what you're saying.

It's not that simple, though. DSOG did not post the files. They were randomly posted by someone else and the site was pointing to the files. Once we notified the site it was then illegal for them to continue pointing to the files because they were then aware they were copyright infringing. It also appears that we got the files taken down from the source.

Shane, you should make sure that the sites that report about the audio give you the credit. PCGamer pointed to DSOG as having the audio link, and DSOG did not say where they got it from. You should contact PCGamer to let them know so they can give you credit, as well as other websites. It could increase site traffic and bring more attention to the Patreon. Don't let this opportunity to be in the news cycle slip away.
