I never heard of this so I looked into it and I think it's just something that a wiz*one made up. The only thing I could find is a section on Wikipedia but it uses a YouTube video about Yena as a source (and the section was only added after this episode of CHU aired). So it was definitely a wiz*one who edited it, there might be some truth to it cause the story definitely sounds plausible but right now I can't find any legit source confirming it.

I read somewhere that the gimbap thing is a social thing - it was something along the lines that it is the "poor" way of eating gimbap the way Yena and her family does it bcs when they were selling it they would not cut it bcs it keeps longer like that. (And you already know from this episode that they were in fact poor due to the hospital costs - dunno if it is correct but I read somewhere that when you are poor it is beneficial and also socially acceptable form of "getting out of poverty" by selling gimbap. Therefore it is kind of a "begging that is not begging". )
