How effective would Toph's tremorsense be in a modern setting?
Added 2023-01-04 20:47:46 +0000 UTCI've been trying to come to a conclusion for a while now, and at this point I figure its a up to how her ability works. One idea is that she feels the vibrations and they are somehow filling in an mental map, in which case more vibrations are actually a good thing. On the other side, if she is sensing the vibrations coming directly from movement then being surrounded by vibrations would make it useless. Since It could go either way, I'm leaving it up to you to decide which way it goes.
I don't know when this will be incorporated into the story, physical bending is higher on his list.

My interpretation is that the technique utilizes the ki used in it to fill in the gaps. I feel like the vibrations carry a small amount of ki from the user which they then can accurately track since it’s their own ki, culminating in a daredevil sonar vision-esc effect. I feel like this makes the most sense when considering actual physics and the limitations that creates with the combination of ki techniques. Bending from avatar after all comes from spirits and interacts with people’s spirit self so I’d argue that all bending operates at a slightly spiritual or soul level.

2023-01-04 22:47:33 +0000 UTCOh well if this is for final level then no limit, as long as he is improving his bending and becoming more in tune with the earth then he should be able to better discern where the vibrations are coming from. How fast he improves will be up to you but I feel putting a hard cap would be weird. If you really want to limit it then just have him reach a bottleneck in his training with it. Then as the story keep going if you need a way for him to improve you can have a fight or something that helps him realize what he was missing.
