Tier changes

Hey guys. Earlier I talked about possibly doing some changes going ahead, and I've decided to go ahead with that.

A long time back I did a post talking about how back when the Devious World patreon got started, I chose $10 as the amount for access to incrementals basically arbitrarily. I kind of just picked a number out of the air to try out, but people seemed largely happy to pay it and the number of subscribers at it was fairly consistent.

The weird $9.38 tier then came about because of one of Patreon's attempts to change how patrons were charged... it was essentially to allow people to still only pay $10 though I'd only get that $9.38. They backed off on it at the time but I just sort of left it there because a fair number of people had already switched to it.

Originally the $1 tier was only for locking a number of posts behind, because at the time there was a rumor that posting any adult content at all without it being behind a charge was verboten, but that's never wound up biting me. And for awhile I was releasing incremental releases to it during a period where I was really uncertain about my ability to get content out. (This was always meant to be temporary, but it's one of those things where it becomes hard to end because you feel like you're yanking that away. I did end it this month, so there it is.)

The thing is, obviously it's getting a lot more expensive to live in the world right now. If you haven't felt the crunch of prices going up, you probably will soon. I'm lucky to be in a position, unlike a lot of patreon creators, that I don't actually have to rely on my patreon income to survive. It definitely keeps me comfortable and provides a buffer for situations like the last month (I wound up having to replace my phone as well as my computer, how's that?), and it's really good to know that I have that to fall back on when situations inevitably happen, but it's not absolutely vital to my survival. And because of that, I feel increasingly like I don't need to be charging $10 a month for text when people may be struggling to fill their gas tank or buy milk or eggs.

So effective... uh, shortly after I finish writing and posting this message... I'll be changing the minimum tier to receive updates to $5. I may in fact lower this again in the future, depending, but for the time being, $5 patrons will receive all incrementals. I'm going to leave the $10 tier in place just for those who still feel like using it and like their Discord role, but that will be purely up to you.

Edit: By the by, I can't change the price of the tier while people are subscribed to it, so you'll have to change to the new $5 tier manually. But until you do at least you'll have a neat new Discord role if you're on the server!
