[Removed for Amazon] Quest Academy: Book 4 (Chapters 55, 56 and 57)

Hey Everyone,

Sorry for the later than usual upload. I've only three chapters this week because of the screw up with the last batch. I kinda got in my own head a little too much and couldn't really focus. Deadline is looming and I'm going to be focusing on getting more chapters out in the coming weeks. Depending on how things go, I'll try to get more chapters released this week and I'll upload them when ready.

Last week was a little rough, but I'm grateful that the consensus was positive. Thank you so much for taking the time to read over the edited chapters and share your thoughts. I want the story to be the best it can be, so your help was very appreciated in getting us there.

Hope you all had a great weekend!

Brian

I'd like to say, Brian I love what you're making so much. Sal's story inspires me to create and that's the reason I keep coming back to reread this story so thank you for writing it

Skzjr

Time to put my 2 cents in. I think everyone is getting carried away with Sal's parents strategy to protect him. Sal will get over it.

Ron Blondeau

I agree with this take but they're rather chipper and quick to sweep it under the rug, which strikes me as different than exhausted and on edge. The tone of the conversation isn't one of "we're exhausted and willing to wait for you to have your feelings" but more "we're going to rush through this and hug you in hopes you don't hate us." They were literally running the same con on him just earlier when he "unlocked" his dad's gift upon return.

BaguaBrady

I think, in terms of the story, we have to take into account his father was going blind from using his power and his mother has daily pain and it took years of healing to remove some of the damage done to her body. I believe most parents would not want that future for their child. This doesn’t mean he can’t be angry at the lies, but the story has already led us to believe he is an over-thinker and not reactionary. Except for the shirt that drained him. As Justin Peters post explains, it’s been a crazy few days and his world needs to settle before he can process.

Dawn Zeleznik

They absolutely could have handled it better and I think sal should have known sooner but how many parents have trouble letting their children into the wider world. I don't ruin they did anything heinous, they were just parents. Lying to him deserves some anger absolutely and I'm sure we'll see it in the future

Justin Peters

Sophia was going to be forced to marry someone without her input. They ran from it for their own benefit. They say that. Sophia was literally killing herself when she used her ability and she doesn't know that Sal won't also hurt himself with his ability. They picked somewhere safe to run away together. Also I'm autistic and as I get tired I have more and more trouble with emotional expression so that may shape my perception of what is normal.

Justin Peters

Angriest I have ever been comes after fatigue because I am too tired for self control. I don't think being drained is a reason to not be angry. Honestly I don't want his anger being tempered. I don't want him being reasonable. He shouldn't be. His parents were making excuses. They were justifying making their own lives easier. It would be easier to hole up in their sanctuary. It would be easier if their son failed out of quest academy. It would be easier to make him lesser than what he could be, because *they* don't want to be noticed. Sal has a very good meta power, maybe the best possible version of it, until it upgrades (which will be interesting to see), but he isn't the only one to have meta abilities. The level of fear they demonstrate seems out of place with the reality of his abilities. Either the dystopian nature of current society needs to be cranked way up, or they messed up real bad and I'm sorry, we just cared too much and wanted to hide doesn't cut it.

I would like to remind people that Sal and his parents haven't slept since before the gala and it's probably 4 or 5 am when they have the conversation. Sal asks to hear the basics so he doesn't overthink when he tries to sleep. After his mother confronting the assassin in the car, Barry confronting a high rank hunter, meeting fabi, having mythcrafter publicly announced, worrying about fabi not respecting his because of his ability, then the whole thing with his parents and ameye, finding out about a world ending dragon, listening to all the dead heroes fabi's new skill implant, negotiating rewards from Robert, fixing arkwright, materials negotiations with Mr. Maccles and baron, setting the records straight with divinity, and the conversation with quest about how portals are coming sooner than later, I think both Sal and his parents are too emotionally drained to have a substantive conversation about anything. I do think that anger on sal's part is justified and it should come but he isn't in a place to really process what he heard. And I hope we do see that anger but tempered by understanding that his parents were overprotective but were doing what they thought was best for him. I feel that would let Sal approach upcoming decisions with the resolve to make decisions for himself and his understanding of the situation rather than a reliance on what others might think is best

Justin Peters

Chapter 55 back stories for Sal's parents are rough. It's a complete let down for Sal who went from improving his parents abilities to something new and better, to fixing up what they had already from a life of war.

I think, in reading this batch again, what's most off putting is that Petro and Sophia default back to joking light-heartedness immediately after their tell all. It makes any contrition and sense of their awareness of the level of betrayal seem surface deep at best. It also really puts a sour note on their generally loving, teasing dynamic... Because here it seems like a massive cover up for actual raw feeling. Sal hasn't even really had a chance to have his feelings and they're cracking jokes and saying "I worry you'd hate us,"... They didn't even give him 30 seconds to form feelings! I'm not sure if that's intended take but I think, without the joking, with more time for real hurt to come up and fear of losing their son, this would read very differently.

BaguaBrady

There's some inconsistency between this: "Yourfather has All-Sight, and he used to map out the weaves of other people that I could use with Shaper."Sal's jaw dropped as he stared at his father. Yes, both of them had been lying to him... buthis father was able to see weaves? ... And Petro's reaction when Sal restored some of his ability. IF what Sal's mom says is true, then Petro was acting about not knowing the full extent of his All-Sight ability... and therefore the lies continued well after Sal's parents knew he wasn't simply coming home to the auction.

Dutch Palmer

Yeah, no longer a fan of Sal's parents. He should be far angrier at them. Like damage the relationship at least temporarily angry. I will give you a personal example that's super recent. I have just discovered that I have ADHD. I'm 46 years old. I was telling my parents this over the phone. I have Adderall prescription and it's changed my life. I felt normal in a way I have never felt in my entire life. It fixed shit in me I didn't even know was broken. Spoiler Alert: My parents knew my entire life that I had ADHD. They just didn't tell me because they didn't want to put me on medication. They wanted me to learn to deal with it and just willpower my way through. So instead of my issues being something medical, I internalized them as personal failures. I was bad, I was weak, I was lazy. They hid information from me, information I need, because even if meds wouldn't have been right for me, I needed to know it wasn't my *fault* I love my parents, but I am not talking to them right now. Sal should and will eventually forgive his parents the way I will mine, but he should be way, way angrier at them. They lied to him and tried to give him a life of mediocrity.

Wasn’t it mentioned earlier in the series that Divinity has a hard time seeing all the possibilities especially when looking at everyone’s futures. So she had to focus on specific people or situations. This could mean that since she’s focusing on Sal a lot she’s basically only seeing the future’s he changes. Instead of what changes everyone else causes… if that makes any sense.😅

LadyLark

I'm with David. I'll see where this goes but Sal is currently hard to relate to due to his relative lack of hurt with how his parents have strung him along. Still, I'm willing to withhold judgement to see where it goes from here

BaguaBrady

What is the reason Divinity’s visions update with Sal’s actions but not with others? There are multiple branches that are based on certain decisions people make but then when Sal makes Perfect or upgrades a weave or something, all of the branches change? Is it because his ability is higher ranked than Divinity’s ability, similar to legencrafter to mythcrafter?

William Allison

Okay, I’m confused. Is there a map? I thought known civilization, or what was left of it, basically existed around the city (launch pad) with little pockets of safe space that were connected to the city by train, like spokes on a wheel. His friend even asked him if he could create something that could pick up analog radio signals, because maybe other pockets of humanity were out there. But now he has extended family on the other side of the country?

Mike M

Thanks

J S

He made a few millions. To keep up with the financial costs of his guild, hiring employees, property taxes, experimenting and most importantly giving away million dollar legendary equipment for free to freshman to hope thwy join his guild. That's gonna all cost him hundreds of millions a year at the bear minimum.

Darnell Maxwell

I wish I could like this more!!!!

Charles Gillentine

He hasn't just accepted it. He told them he needed time to process it so we may get anger later but I think he also knows his mother is overprotective and that they kept do much from him because she doesn't want him to have to deal with hardship. And that's something she does out of love so I'm sure he understands where they are coming from to a degree even if he later decides he's upset as he processes all of the new information

Justin Peters

Didn't Sal make a ton of money from commission from the auction?

Ron Blondeau

I fully agree on the second point. For the third, it's not just extra RAM but the brain of the machine, in a sense—the AI responsible for making adjustments to the blueprint used in the crafting process, depending on materials and all that. As for the fourth, I've been thinking about it. He received a kind of physical upgrade in the tower, and the perfect weave is changing the way he uses his skills. This should mean less strain on his eyes. However, he's also been consuming a mix of potions that are improved by perfect weave and has offloaded a lot of the visual tasks to his visor when crafting lately. With his fitness training, he has a higher tolerance, so maybe the negative impact takes longer to become visibl?.

Frilas Gilneas

1) Ah, so you guys are the reason Sal's such a pu- pacifist. Why Sal is such a pacifist. 2) "I can't accept that generosity... it's far too much" Sal is officially banned from saying this sentence ever again. And thank u Fabi for pointing out his hypocrisy. Sal's wallet is far too empty for him to turn away stuff like this. 3) So it's using dungeon cores like extra ram. Figured as much. 4) Search up that healing ability of Fabi and Sakura's teammate. You've been using your abilities for over a month without supervision or a healer checkup. Your eyes are probably at 60% durability by now. Or just finally make that healing ability you should have made in book 2 but keep forgetting to do!

Darnell Maxwell

Kind of ironic that Silverson group didn't like the combo of Sophia and Petro and yet it led to Sal

Sam

So did sal just revert Petro back to what he had?

C

Damn, so Petro and Sophia have been actively lying even recently. Not just when Sal was a kid. Back in chapter 5 of this book, when Sal slightly unknotted Petro's weave, Petro was immediately able to parse the information from Analysis. Sal's rationalization was about high skill mastery, but it might have just been foreshadowing the fact that Petro already had experience with the functions of All-sight, despite acting like it was a new feeling. Kinda goes against the whole 'we were only lying to you because we thought you'd fail and we'd never have to bring it up'. Petro probably just didn't want to have that conversation there and then.

Mico Cueto

Cheers!

Naotsugu97

Thank you for the chapters. I'm excited to see if sal can help his mother once he learns more about body manipulation abilities

Justin Peters

She is a body manipulator forcefully imitating weaves by moving here gates while Sal is moving the threads not the gates. It’s like she tears apart a picture to reassemble the colors while Sal can just reset it and draw a new picture which hurts here when using and results in a messed up imitation that has side effects as well. At least that is how I understood here ability

Frilas Gilneas

Condition from Saviors seems custom made to fix Sophia

Alteron

Just undo the knots. She said that's what hurts her but she can't work on herself.

Charles Gillentine

Wrong approach I think rather improve the healer weave and have here heal his mother while she copies the perfect weave to get the effect from perfect that Sal had in the tower

Frilas Gilneas

Petro did say he knew his ability was all-sight when Sal undid some knots. I’m a little confused about the meaning of the weave mapping they talk about but I believe they mean literally mapping as they are with all the knots in them and Sophia using those as she can’t manipulate the weave directly like Sal and with that also misses the instinct to improve or perfect them. Both of them have not been using there skills for 20 years which resulted in them degrading like muscles would

Frilas Gilneas

Ok.. I’m Curious.. does Sal use the perfect ability and the coat with transference to heal his mom? I know.. I have to wait.. but still..

Heather Herren

I enjoyed these chapters. The parents back story was good and didn’t distract from the main story of Sal. As always, unless I got the full book there isn’t enough. :)

Dawn Zeleznik

Good chapters! Looking forward to what happens next. I am a little confused about Petro. He already knew he had all-sight? Did Sals mom cripple his weave to give him the downgraded version? Was he lying when he was acting shocked at what he could see when Sal upgraded his weave? Did Sal actually upgrade his weave or just revert it?

C

Is Sophia trickster? It seems like she would have the ability to be multiple heros.

Ray S.

Thanks for highlighting. I'll have a look tomorrow. It's Petro's grandfather, not Sal's grandfather, so that'll need to be switched if it's the case.

James Northman

He wouldn’t have been that way if his parents had only explained things or helped him with his abilities when they manifested. They made a choice not to do it.

David

That wasn’t resolution, that was a hand wave explanation, apology, and a doormat accepting it. I blame Sal’s parents that he’s so naive and spineless about most things.

David

Just keeps getting better! I am still wondering how you are shaping the Divinity character. Her "ability" must be a nightmare as the future changes with every variable action. It would be impossible to "shape" the future as millions of variables occur for an unlimited amount of time or to an unlimited extent. I am so confused!!

Ron Blondeau

In ch 55 Sophia intimated that Silverson Group were the ones that established Silver sanctuary yet a little bit later Petro said that they have no presence there? Also is the head of Silverson Petro's grandfather or Sal's? Because both were mentioned. Finally Reversion was explained as bringing something from the past state to the present, shouldn't it be the other way around? As in bringing something, like Sal's face, from the present state, were he was burned, to the past state when he was healthy?

Abdulmohsen

I'm more irritated that he just forgave them like it was nothing. Sal's parents betrayed him and have been lying to him for his whole life and he just brushes it off and cleans up the after party. Maybe he comes back later and says something, but it won't have any impact. They could have helped him develop his abilities, taught him meditation, and even just basic fitness. They did none of that. Instead, they used some bullshit excuse about his gentle nature to hand wave away raising him to be a doormat who is so naive other people might think he's slow. That they thought Sal would just drop out and then never need to tell him is even worse.

David

Thanks for the chapters, good resolution of the parents history. But if Sophie grew up with Prestige, how could they move away and end up here? And like everyone else says, don’t apologise, we are all just addicts waiting for our weekly fix :-)

Alteron

To be clear, not out of despair or loosing THE future or anything just, "oh gods dammit, that's the third time this week"

michael pigott

Keep it up. You are doing awesome!! And you take criticism well!!!

Heather Herren

Your doing great man keep it up solid adjustments and better for the story in the long run would rather have it late and good then rushed and less than it could be

Francisco Sanchez

I feel like the end of the last chapter needs a cutaway to Divinity waking up, checking the future and immediately starting to drink again because Sal just changed the future again.

michael pigott

I love that idea for the names

Nate

It may have been a mix of A: How Sal was pre academy.... he was REALLY cynical about stuff and people before crafting and a social group who's reaction to skill master wasn't resentment and B: the "active attempts to force supports out" lobby that was going full swing leading into the year

michael pigott

Thanks for the chapters! Really enjoying the Arkwright, I wonder what his parents hero names were, I'm guessing Odin and Freya since All-Sight and the eye patch fits Odin and the Healing and fighting fits Freya as a Valkyrie

Thomas Todd

The Silverson Group sounds like a new antagonist like Bastion. I love it, good family drama.

Nate

You are doing a great job! Would not help anyone if you stress yourself to burnout, so look back on the great books you’ve already written!

Benjamin Hartmann

Ok first kinda pissed at Sals parents for having low expectations of him thinking he would drop out early. They have op abilities and lied to him….. grrrr they suck love the chapter though 🙂 if his parents are so op they need contractual agreements in place to leave them alone I feel Sal has only just tapped into a fraction of his true ability. If going by Lombardi saying each generation gets stronger then Sal is more op than even Erika thinks.

Nate

I agree, don’t apologize. Thank YOU for considering input from your (rabid) fans. :>)

Dr. Chaos

That's a relief. Hope you enjoy them :)

James Northman

I was on my laptop but I see them now. It may have just taken a minute. Thank you!

Jairo H

Hey Jairo, they're showing up for me so I'm not really sure how to resolve this. Could you try viewing them in the App or on your Browser rather than via email? (Sorry, I've no idea if that's the issue, it's just a guess)

James Northman

Thank you for the chapters. Don’t apologise the last set wasn’t a screw up they were still really good.👍

Nate

Of course! Loving the content and, just as you, we also want it to continue to be amazing.

Jairo H

Don't apologize for putting quality time into quality content.
