It was two hours before midnight, when I heard a knock on my bedroom door. I looked away from the book that I was reading to find Melinda gliding in holding a hairbrush. Not who I expected to visit me so late in the night.
"May I comb your hair miss?" She asked politely yet expectantly. I was a little taken aback by her question because she's never done anything like this for me in the past. I noticed she was waiting for an answer and reluctantly, I agreed.
Is she up to something? I asked myself while she was gently brushing my hair. Did Ellaine put her up to this? maybe that ill-fed witch ordered her to damage my hair. Well if that were the case, I would have no problem driving off any spirit and undead entities. But this is Melinda, she wouldn't do such a thing even if that witch asked her to.
That witch, yes... it has been three days since she left and she's still plaguing my thoughts. Then it occurred to me, it was actually fairly simple!
"You miss your mama!" I exclaimed, and it sounded harsher than I intended.
Melinda's ghostly hands stopped moving, and she nodded sadly.
I felt guilty for having ill thoughts against this sweet girl, so I grabbed her hand holding the brush half-expecting my fingers to pass through her spectral form and urged her to continue with her task.
"Be patient dear, in four days Ellaine will be finally home" I said to her.
Maybe Ellaine isn't so bad given the fact that she raised such a good-natured ghost that is Melinda.
"How often do you do this for Ellaine?" I asked.
"Every night" Melinda answered beaming.
Strike that previous thought, I do hate that spoiled witch.
