Death from Above

733(Present Day)

Radne noticed that the flying creatures were diving for us at extreme speed but despite that she still wasn't able to duck away fast enough like the rest of us. When I regained my balance Radne and her captor was already a good 20 feet in the air.

These creatures are called Vulture Harpies, named for the color of their plumage and the white ruff of feathers around the neck iconic to a common vulture, however these nasty raptors are nothing like vultures at all, they hunt not scavenge. They are big, fast and absolutely deadly with their ability to take off just as fast as they could land.

We won't stand a chance against four of these harpies, we have to run. As if reading my mind Jakar said "I have something that can help us get away".

I will take a shitty 'something' over a good nothing, and there is no time to hesitate. In this line of work hesitation could be fatal so I made the executive decision and I screamed as loud as i could:

"WE ARE RUNNING!"

Without hesitation, Jakar bolted and Radne quite literally weaseled her way out of the harpy's grasp and started running to the direction that I was pointing. Brenda on the other hand replied with "What!? run to where!?".

Understandable, there's nowhere for us to hide that would provide a sufficient cover and no way for us to out-run the flying harpies so I understand her hesitation but there is a rule in this party:

"Run first, ask questions while running"

"Just run!" I insisted. She's the newest member of our group and she does not know that when somebody in the party makes 'the call' , we just do it together which brings us to another rule in this party:

"An unwise course of action done as a group is better than inaction"

A few moments of hesitation did not matter since Brenda still outpaced the three of us even on sand. The four harpies immediately followed us in pursuit, screeching and cackling behind us. I saw Jakar lagged behind as she pulled out the Fergon crystal that she stole from the locals of the dimension we escaped from and began to cast a spell through it.

"Everyone eyes forward and don't slow down!" Jakar said with confidence.
A bright flash of light emanated from behind us and a sound like that of a thousand glasses breaking. The little shit casted a hypnotic pattern unlike anything I've seen from her before. The harpies were dazed and unmoving surrounded by glinting sparkles like stars in the sky.

It seems like the fergon crystal amplified her hypnotic pattern by ten-fold, I now understand why she wanted that crystal so bad.

"This won't last forever, KEEP RUNNING!" Jakar said with urgency.

And we ran like our lives depended on it, because it did.
