The group set off for the cafe. Surprisingly, Izuku bumped into his other classmates, who were also visiting the expo.
Ace was taken by surprise to see most of the students from Class 1-A present. What are the chances?
Because of the Inves attack during the UA Sports Festival, the event was called off prematurely, and it couldn't be finished. There was no clear winner to decide. As an apology for what happened, UA provided financial remuneration to those who were injured and gave tickets to the I-Island Expo to the top-performing students as a show of good faith.
The students who received the invitation were Mineta, Kaminari, Iida, Kirishima, Bakugo, Yaoyorozu, Momo, Shoji, Sero, Tokoyami, and Asui.
As for Todoroki, he was representing his father, Endeavor, who was unable to attend due to his duties.
Ashido, Jiro, and Hagakure got in through Momo's family connections. She really is rich!
Ace cast his gaze over the group, lingering on Mineta. I need to keep an eye on him. He vividly recalled the Mantis Imagin clinging to the small boy, controlling him like a puppet. Though the event seemed erased from Mineta’s mind, Ace carried the burden of that memory. He wondered what the tiny student could be up to now.

The air shifted, ever so slightly, and Mineta flinched. An odd feeling ran down his spine. Did someone just look at me?
Ace’s attention had already moved on to the rest of the group. He had to remain vigilant.
The chatter grew louder as the group of students, alongside Melissa, entered the cafe. Steam from the freshly brewed coffee mingled with the enthusiastic voices, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. Melissa beamed, thrilled to be surrounded by so many bright, young individuals, each with the potential to reshape the world of heroism.
“So, what’s it like being in the Hero Course?” she inquired, her eyes sparkling with curiosity.
“It’s pretty wild,” Kirishima responded, flashing a toothy grin. “Every day is a test of our limits, but it’s also super inspiring. You’re constantly pushing yourself to be better, you know, to be more manly!”
“Yeah, and the internships are insane!” Kaminari added, rubbing the back of his head. “I got to work with this electric-type hero, and the training was shocking! Literally!”
Yaoyorozu shared her experience of working with a rescue hero, discussing the importance of quick thinking and resourcefulness in emergency situations. Asui chimed in, describing her internship with a stealth-based hero, which taught her the value of observation and adaptability.
As the 1-A students recounted their experiences, their passion and drive filled the air. Melissa listened intently, hanging on every word. A wistful expression then crossed her face. “It sounds amazing,” she said softly, “I wish I could experience something like that someday, too.”
Ochaco, ever cheerful and supportive, tilted her head. “Well, why can’t you, Melissa? You’re super smart and creative! I’m sure you’d make an awesome hero.”
Melissa sighed. “I appreciate that, Uraraka, but… I’m Quirkless.”
A hush fell over the group. The atmosphere shifted, and the students of Class 1-A suddenly became sensitive, almost uncomfortable. The reality of their world, where Quirks dictated almost everything, weighed heavily in the air.
It was Bakugo, of course, who shattered the silence with his usual lack of tact. “Tch,” he scoffed, rolling his eyes. “Of course it’s impossible. What’s a Quirkless extra gonna do against a real villain? Stay home and knit, maybe?”
Iida’s hand shot up in a chopping motion. “Bakugo! Such language is unbefitting a future hero! You must consider the feelings of others and show respect, even when disagreeing!”
Bakugo simply glared back. “Shut your trap, Four-Eyes. I’m just stating facts. No Quirk, no chance. It’s that simple.”
Melissa’s smile faltered, and a shadow passed over her features. Ace saw the hurt in her eyes, the disappointment etched on her face, and something inside him snapped. He couldn’t stand to see someone as bright and driven as Melissa be put down like that.
“That’s not true,” Ace interjected, his voice calm but firm. “Having a Quirk doesn’t automatically make you a hero. It’s about what you do with what you have. And someone as smart and determined as Melissa could do more good than a lot of Quirk users I know.”
Bakugo’s crimson eyes narrowed, focusing on Ace with predatory intensity. “Oh yeah? And what would you know about it, huh? You got some secret Quirk hiding under that pretty-boy face?”
Ace stood up straighter, meeting Bakugo’s gaze without flinching. “I don’t need a Quirk to know what’s right. And I sure as hell don’t need one to put you in your place.”
Bakugo let out a harsh laugh. “You? Beat me? A Quirkless nobody? Don’t make me laugh.”
Ace’s expression hardened. “You wanna find out? I’m betting I could take you down, even without a Quirk.”
A collective gasp rippled through the group. The air crackled with tension, and the boys of Class 1-A, recognizing the volatile situation, quickly stepped in to prevent a full-blown explosion.
“Alright, alright, calm down, you two!” Kirishima said, placing a hand on Bakugo’s shoulder. “Let’s not get ahead of ourselves. This is supposed to be a friendly get-together, right?”
“Yeah, Bakugo, no need to get so worked up,” Kaminari added, trying to lighten the mood.
The girls, equally concerned, attempted to de-escalate the situation by suggesting they change the subject.
“Maybe we should split up and check out some of the other exhibits?” Uraraka offered, her voice laced with nervous energy. “I heard there’s this amazing display of support gear down the hall!”
“That sounds like a great idea!” Yaoyorozu chimed in. “We could all use a bit of a distraction.”
The group reluctantly agreed, sensing the need to diffuse the situation. As they began to break apart, Bakugo shot Ace one last venomous glare.
“Just remember, Quirkless bastard,” he spat, his voice dripping with contempt. “You’ll never beat me. Never.” Then, he turned and stormed off, his explosive temper radiating in his wake.
Ace watched him go, his jaw tight. He really disliked that kid’s personality. He took a deep breath, trying to tamp down the anger that was bubbling inside him. Control yourself, Ace. He’s not worth it.
After Bakugo left, Ace found himself with Melissa, Izuku, and Asahi. A bit ashamed about what had just happened, Izuku spoke up, “I-I’m really sorry about Bakugo’s behavior. He can be… a lot, sometimes.”
Ace simply shrugged, trying to dismiss the incident. But then, his eyes flickered back to Melissa. Her disappointment at his actions had been made clear. He knew he had to respond to that.
“Don’t worry about it, Midoriya,” Ace replied, his voice regaining its usual warmth. “Just tell Bakugo for me that if he ever says something like that to Melissa again, I swear I’m gonna break both his arms.”
The protective tone in Ace’s voice caused Melissa to blush. She glanced at Ace shyly, her eyes filled with gratitude. "Thank you, Ace," she whispered.
Ace smiled, his gaze softening. "Anytime, Melissa. Anytime." He meant it, too. He was getting tired of standing by while others got hurt, whether they were in another world, or another dimension. It was time to step up. He was Kamen Rider, after all. He was there to protect people's smiles. And right now, Melissa’s smile was worth fighting for.
