Officer Birch should have waited for backup. While patrolling an isolated area, he received a dispatch call about a disturbance at a nearby house. He had driven past that very house just minutes earlier, but with the nearest patrol still 20 minutes away, he decided to turn around and investigate.

It turned out to be the wrong house to visit. The occupants, engaged in illegal activities, were far from pleased to see law enforcement at their door. They quickly overpowered Officer Birch, disarming and subduing him. Before long, he was hogtied, thoroughly gagged, and left helpless. Taking no chances, his captors ensured he could do nothing but squirm and moan, anxiously awaiting the arrival of the other patrol.
