So much progress

The past couple of months have afforded me some free time, which I spent making great strides on writing the book.

A lot of time is spent doing calculations to make sure that every fact in the book is 100% absolutely correct -- this is not a trivial task! All the tables, lists, and even some of the diagrams are generated by the same scripts that do real-time scalar calculations for the website. The book is being constructed with LaTeX, which means it has a build process to output a PDF from all the source files. I have conveniently injected my own scripts into the build process so that all the scale property calculations are performed and output precisely as LaTeX templates. This is how I hope to make an incredibly technical fact-dense book with (I hope) no errors in it.

Much gratitude to the newest patrons! I appreciate that very few people in the world will be fascinated by this stuff, and it's remarkable that you are willing to pitch in a buck or two to keep it all afloat and progressing.

The next chapter I need to spend time on is the one about well-formed and pairwise well-formed pitch class sets. That's a tricky subject, moreso than some of the others. I will put in the time to do it justice with some clear explanations - not just about what it means to be well-formed, but also why it matters and what this property indicates about a scale as an indicator of musical usefulness.

What fun!

Seasons greetings to y'all
