When i discovered the axis theory of Erno Lendvai it made me rethink the concept of modes. Even if some scales are a result of rotation they have totally different balance depending on a chosen root. Although the system has some holes as a compositional tool it definitely helped me to advance in understanding of harmony a little bit. I also find the corrupted major approach problematic. It can help to communicate with other musicians because they are used to it but for me personally it's much simpler and easier to call the 1 2 3 #4 5 6 b7 scale Lydian + Aeolian tetrachords rather than Lydian Dominant. In this mindset i have to recall a parent scale structure first and then alterate it. Cumbersome.
