Oddly enough if you were to characterize them it’s very cute but idiot character (Vivi) falling in love with like… the jock (Guin). The Empress is—for lack of a better term— super fuckn OP and low key usurped her dad’s throne cos she was tired of him asking her when she was getting married and reasoned it like “well nobody can tell me anything if I were the [then] ruling Queen so usurpation it is”. She is currently an empress cos she got mad at her neighboring countries and did some wars with them and now the kingdom ended up being an empire.
All this cos she just wanted to love women in peace tbh 😔
Vivi comes to the empire under pretty not nice circumstances tho. From a country which the Empire wasn’t on super good but not super bad terms with, so the Empire requested they hand over their second prince as a political hostage while they negotiate terms and what not since the Empress doesn’t always wanna go to war all the time. They did disrespect her goodwill by sending an illegitimate princess to whom they cut her hair and haphazardly dressed her as a boy and shipped her to the Imperial palace tho. Only reason Guin didn’t get mad and smite that little coastal nation is cos she thought Vivi was cute 😔
