RJ Ramblings
Added 2023-04-17 13:49:41 +0000 UTCFirst thing this morning, I check Patreon, getting ready to write out this ramblings and see that somebody cancelled their Patreon sub because "there are more personal venting posts than development news."
So I'm going to personally vent about that a bit.
There have been a few times that I've considered cancelling the Monday Ramblings, because of things like this. I know that venting can turn some people off. I want to be a positive person and I want to make people happy. I try not to get too negative in the Ramblings, but I also want to be real with you all. I think that a lot of you appreciate it. I've heard from many people how they stay subscribed to me over some other developers (who may have made better games), because they feel like I'm a real person.
Also, my personal life and "development news" are basically the same thing. Since I'm a solo developer, my personal life CONSTANTLY impacts development. If I don't get a lot done in the week, it's probably because something personal happened. So in my mind, the ramblings are sort of that side of development.
Either way, I do one personal post a week and one development update a week. So... there's not more of one than the other.
I hope you guys are cool with that. I think that if you're here supporting me on Patreon that you're wanting to support ME. Otherwise, you'd just go buy the game or something and that's it. I hope that's true. So for those who want to support ME, I really appreciate you, and I'm going to keep telling you how I'm doing, whether that's good or bad.
This last week has been pretty good mostly. I switched to some different allergy drugs finally and I think they're helping. I've felt better the last few days.
Still been painting minis in my spare time and I've been prepping for this D&D campaign that I'm going to start in a month or two. Also still playing through Resident Evil 4 Remake. I've put other games on the back-burner for now, but there's like 4 games I want to finish before Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom comes out next month (Dead Space, Mass Effect 3, God of War: Ragnarok, Resident Evil 4). I'm REALLY looking forward to Tears of the Kingdom.
If you haven't seen the minis I've painted, I posted pictures of some of them on the patron-only channel in the discord, as well as on Twitter. I'm particularly proud of the Dragon Turtle, which is the biggest mini I've painted so far. I learned how to use an airbrush and have been playing around with that. Looking forward to doing more with it.
Feeling pretty good overall. Had a good week, despite some stress. Thinking about making a trip to Dallas sometime this week and having a date day with my partner. We'll see if my allergies clear up enough to do that later in the week.
Alright, that's all I got. Love you guys. Thanks to those who continuously support me. It means everything. Have an amazing week!

Nothing needs to said that hasn't been already addressed. We do appreciate you RJ! You keep on being you.

2023-04-18 14:00:22 +0000 UTCOne day that former-patron will grow up to understand that life is full of bumps and bruises. If he wants a fuzzy rub to soothe him/her, they can get a massage from his cat or dog. I live life and it's just like yours....lol

2023-04-18 09:32:41 +0000 UTCKeep doing you RJ, people can cxl anytime they like, but to say its based on the content of a post instead of a legit issue with quality/creativity of art/story/characters of the actual avn means they were going to drop anyway and think its cool to be a hater on the way out...hells maybe they just ran out of money and are lashing out in a shame spiral? lol who knows

2023-04-17 20:00:12 +0000 UTCWell you can't please everyone. Your development posts are professional and clearly stated, your ramblings are definitely personnel more than professional. I think you clearly state the difference and while its definitely different, the "ramblings" are optional to read and for me personally, part of the value.

2023-04-17 18:37:35 +0000 UTCWell, I just recently bought the Lego Titanic and Lego Eiffel Tower. We finally have room to display them.

2023-04-17 18:24:20 +0000 UTCAm I here to support you directly? Your'e goddamn right I am. I like those posts because it helps me to build a connection with a dev, without it being parasocial but because I want you to be successful. All the best to you and keep doing what you're doing in a way, you're comfortable with.

2023-04-17 16:39:53 +0000 UTCYeah that's me. I have a TON of Lego.

2023-04-17 16:16:35 +0000 UTCI love all this. And if I recall correctly, don't you also build Lego sets? If I'm confusing you with someone else, please forgive me.

2023-04-17 15:28:42 +0000 UTCYeah, that's a dumb reason to cancel... You're absolutely right about us choosing Patreon because we want to support YOU instead of just a single transaction of buying a game. Patreon isn't a storefront... As my Granny would say... "Some people's children..." * Shakes head and walks away*

2023-04-17 15:00:15 +0000 UTCYou make more progress than most of my other supported creators. Lol

2023-04-17 14:41:01 +0000 UTCI don't consider what you've been doing to be venting - you're appraising us of recent events, some of which impact the game development heavily (and others notsomuch)...don't worry about griping gripers like that.

2023-04-17 14:38:26 +0000 UTCSeems like a weird reason to cancel support, especially since you keep us more updated than a LOT of Patreons I've seen. Plus your posts are clearly labeled, so if they don't want to hear what's going on with you, they don't have to click on it or read it. I'm betting there's something else going on with that person and they were just looking for an excuse. (Or I guess there are people who just have an aversion to slice of life info, though if that's the case, I'm not sure why they'd be a fan of this game. )

2023-04-17 14:28:16 +0000 UTCI personally really enjoy this little personal touch from you. I like seeing the developers as humans and it is a very special connection and I like it.
