RJ Rambles about... movies maybe?

Hello everybody! I wasn't planning on rambling today, because I was going to release the beta today, but since I released the beta early, why not ramble? 

But I have no idea what I'm going to ramble about. I didn't really do a lot the last week, outside of work. I went to visit family for Thanksgiving, which was nice. I went hiking once yesterday. I hadn't been hiking since coming back from the honeymoon, so trying to get back on a 2/3 times a week schedule there. That was nice. We went to a place we hadn't been to before and liked it quite a bit. 

Other than that, I haven't really been doing much. But, I do have a bit of a renewed love for movies, and I think that's largely because of how much I enjoyed Barbie. I feel like I go through these phases where I'll watch movies and I'm like "I've seen all this before," or it'll just be mindless popcorn movies that I immediately forget after I watch. 

But then sometimes a movie like Barbie, or like Everything Everywhere All at Once, or like X or Pearl will come along and remind me of why I enjoy movies in the first place. I'm in that phase right now, where I want to watch more new movies. But I like a very specific kind of movie. I like FUN movies with heart. I feel like most of what people would consider "good" movies are downers. I don't want to watch a downer. I don't have any interest in Oppenheimer for example. 

So, we've been watching some movies. 

This last week, we watched Bottoms, which I really enjoyed. It was a little hard for me, because it's obviously made for a zoomer audience, but I still had a blast with it. 

Then we watched The Killer a couple days ago. I'm a big David Fincher fan, but this movie didn't do anything for me really. It had a few interesting things about it, but was overall very dull, I felt. 

And yesterday we watched Suzume. I don't really watch a lot of anime. Japanese stories are sometimes hard for me to get into, because they tend to be formed in a different way, they have a different sense of humor, and sometimes I feel like I'm missing out on a lot, because I don't speak the language. There was definitely some of that in Suzume, but the characters were just so likeable and the animation was absolutely gorgeous, so I enjoyed it quite a bit. I think I'm going to go see the new Miyazaki film The Boy and The Heron when it hits my local theaters next week as well. 

If you guys know any more FUN movies with heart (that are not part of some franchise) that came out over the last couple of years and I might have missed, let me know!
