Frame Trap - Episode 15 "Are We Ready to Make the Switch?"

Today on Frame Trap, it's an extra spicy episode as we share our thoughts and feelings on the Nintendo Switch. Of course, there's plenty of games to talk about as well including Battlefield 1, World of Final Fantasy, Civilization VI, Mafia III, and Call of Duty Infinite Warfare. We even find a few minutes to sneak in some discussion about Red Dead Redemption 2 and Valkyria: Azure Revolution.

Frame Trap - Episode 15 "Are We Ready to Make the Switch?"

Comments

Men, Brad and Huber sounded really sour on Switch. I didn't own a Wii nor a Wii U and I get where they come from regarding the lack of 3rd party support or massive drought seasons but the concept of the NS is just incredible. Perhaps you guys don't see the need of the portability but many people out there long for a console like the Switch where you can fully play games on the go. Also Ben gave an amazing example: you don't even need to be on-the-go to appreciate the console, you can easily play in bed or in the toilet. Sony tried to offer some portability with their remote-controlled but that's an half-assed feature which is wonky. Microsoft is trying to also offer their "play everywhere" by offering Xbox One 's game catalog on Windows 10 but what Nintendo is offering with the Switch is the true Play Everywhere!

Ben, I like your "novella" idea for RDR. After enjoying a similar style of story-telling in BF1, I'm all for it.

I love Nintendo. Most of my favorite series are on their systems. But I felt really burned by the Wii and the lack of support in the back half of its life, so much so that I didn't purchase the WiiU (although I was able to play all of the WiiU games that I wanted to with a friend). With the Switch, Nintendo needs to get with the times. They need to have a unified account going forward, several big games each year, and they need to have a substantial online platform like Xbox and Playstation. Otherwise, I'm out again. Hopefully all of that comes together with the Switch.

To answer Damiani about World of Final Fantasy, Tama DOES speak with a little quirk in Japanese. It ends almost all sentences with a little thing (can't quite make it out yet) but it's similar to "-kuma" that Persona 4's Teddie does and the famous "-dattebayo" that Naruto does.

Huber, didn't we already play as a good guy in LA Noire? (never played the game im just assuming hes good since hes a cop)

I'm on board with the Switch. As a parent, full time job and other adult things things that take up your time, having more opportunities to play living room experiences on the go is a huge plus. My backlog is much longer for my console games than my portable and this will help a lot. As far as the discussion goes, the power is enticing the third party publishers to a point. Nobody had to use the WiiU second screen (even N skipped out on it for many games) and it was still vastly unsupported due to its chipset and power (and yes poor install base but this is talking about devs who wanted to support the system such as project Cars). Hopefully having a Tegra chip helps with the technical aspects and makes the process smooth for devs. I'm ok with some power difference because the diminishing returns on game performance is hitting a ceiling compared with games even 5 years ago.

I really liked the Switch discussion, but I feel like the DS has been underrepresented in the process. If we assume that the Switch will replace not only the WiiU but also the 3DS, then I would say that the problem of not enough games does not exist anymore. Just look at all the amazing games that get released on the DS. If you bring together the games of both systems, the Switch will be an incredible platform and I am going to consider buying the first Nintendo console for myself since the SNES.

Ghosts and Infinite Warfare are from the same studio. Curiously it's the one that created the franchise, in name at least, since the major talent have gone away a long time ago. I think this year will be the "Hardline" year for COD. Next year's Treyarch one will be the real good one. Let's just see if the franchise can handle the inconsistency. For me it's obvious that Treyarch is the best studio, Sledghammer next, leaving Infinity Ward to play catch up.

Great episode guys. One thing though, please get a curtain or something since the glare was real bad this episode as well as on the latest TTE.

When Ben accidentally said he didn't like Modern Warfare I almost lost my shit, also Daimiani maybe a Nintendo Fanboy but man his discussion on the Switch was fantastic any future Ninty related stuff should include Daimiani's opinions.

golden gun defence: Pablo. Escobar.

Your comment makes this a little unclear as we only use the webcam for live streams at Brandon's, not for any shows That camera hasn't changed. We're still experimenting with the stream camera though. We'll probably do some things differently this week. -Bloodworth

Hey Allies. There’s something on which I feel I should comment. I’m not sure I like the new webcam you've been using over the last week or two. The quality appears significantly lower compared to the camera you used before. The new one makes your skin look bloomed out as though you’ve applied an emboss filter to the video. The detail also isn’t as sharp as though the source resolution were lower. I also noticed some compression artifacts. I watch your shows on a 58 inch Panasonic plasma. The difference in quality really stands out for me. Hopefully it’s just some settings you can easily adjust. Anyway, I still enjoy your shows. Love and respect - Thorfkin
