Final Fantasy XV Review

Comments

I have to respectfully disagree with this review. This game was a major let down for me. I finished the main quest in under 30 hours and the story was too much of a mess and the battle system had no real feeling of progression. I honestly enjoyed World of Final Fantasy more.

It's interesting to watch a review for a game that I have 0 interest in, even with a high score. I know I won't enjoy this game.

Lol, the story is easy to fellow? What game where you playing. That being said, the game is great and could have been one of the best FF games in the series. Until you start down the main story, once you get to chapter 12. The game become mind numbing, and you quickly realize the great game that you thought you wanted to play more of. Becomes a literal hell to slug through. But nothing can compare to the cring and just unacceptable game design as a whole that awaits in chapter 13. Maybe they thought it would be funny, it being 13, but it is not and honestly if people stop playing the game at this point. It is understandable, it's hours of game design that every other game dev should use to show what never to ever put into a game. Honestly this and a lot of reviews are being way too generous with their reviews. There are too many things in this game that just can't be brushed aside because of the open world part being so great. This game was not worth 10 years of waiting, it really isn't that great of a whole game. One part is great, it is going in the right direction. If the next game is more of it with a few improvements. FF16 may be the best game in the series. But the other part is everything that was horrible from 13. With just the worst and unacceptable game design choices that make even 13 seem good.

This was cathartic. Amazing work, Ben and Brandon!

Nope nope nope. I'm sure you did a great job keeping this spoiler free and all but I have too much hype for this game to let any outside opinions influence my own. I'll watch it after I beat it. L&R

Great review Ben . no spoilers and you mentioned great points that we all are nervous about. With that aside , I must say that I wont get this game anytime soon just because ff13 was a huge disappointment so I don't want to spend my money unless it gets a discount price.

I agree that the car seems forced in weird ways at times. Especially not allowing auto-driving at night is really annoying when you want to get to a hunt spot that is only possible at night. Also, it feels quite a lot like it is mostly there to speed up getting around the vast areas. That said, I don't understand what you mean about walking miles and miles to get to hunts and back. Just take the car on auto, select the quest spot, and stop on the side of the road as close as possible. I've never had to hoof it more than maybe 0.3 miles.

I haven't played the game but managed to watch the kingsglaive movie. I was actually quite blown away by it. Janky facial animations aside it was a beautiful anime and surprisingly character driven. If this is a set up both in terms of scale as well as character development for the game then I'm actually super excited. I should also note that I was super peeved having to pay for it given that I felt I needed to see it to understand FFXV and after having watched it I felt it was definitely worth the price

I bought my Deluxe edition copy today and played it for 12 hours straight. They literally brought the spirit of FF back with this game. Shimomura's influence in this game is so huge that a lot of people are understating it.

What if FF16 is a episodic game????

Thanks for the review Ben! I'll go and pick this up TODAY! Really enjoyed the editing in this review as well, Brandon! It gave me chills more than once! :)

Fantastic review Ben, this is why I'm such a fan of EZA. How does the open world and MMO like quests compare to FF12, which is perhaps one of my favorites in the series despite its weak story

This is the review I've been waiting for. So glad you guys have the chance to bring it to the masses. Thanks!

Awesome review Mr. Moore! After reading about five or six different ones, they all read pretty much the same. And while your verdict aligns with everyone else, you also included points no one else did, like monster design and what it takes to get Astrals. I'm so excited to play Final Fantasy XV.

I would of liked to hear more about what made you guys greatful for the adventure

Looking forward to the next podcast where no doubt it'll be discussed. Those discussions are always what I consider the asterisk to the official review. Less filtered, multiple viewpoints, etc.

I don't understand, almost all the reviews are talking about the bad sidequests and story but gives the game a great rating, why ? I think story is one of the most important thing in a rpg. I'm only in the second chapter but there's already things that make me mad. one hunting mission at the time, the car is really bad you can't do anything with it, walking miles and mile to kill a monster and miles and miles to have the reward... and one of my favorite game this gen is xenoblade chronicles x, loved the world in that game even if the main storyline was 'short' the world was unbelievable and the sidequest are not great but there's little npc stories with them. I like the characters in ffxv but I hope get better when I'll unlocked the chocobo. And what about the second part of the game where it isn't openworld, and there characters that disappears and strange ellipses. (Read that in another review) what do you think of the second part of the game, ben ?

Excellent review Ben!

But the real question is: is it One of the Greats (TM)?

Arnesh Nagavalli

I guess I will get this now

Looking forward to this review

So excited!
