I think you're being a bit paranoid man. They aren't going to delete you or your posts just because you disagree with them and you're expressing yourself. Relax man. I'm sure it'll be quite some time before EZA gets into another political discussion like that. Which, imo, is unfortunate, but totally understandable. Love and respect fellow Ally. We may not share political views, but we share a love of gaming. And, to me, that's more interesting than what may divide us.

Always wanted to visit Japan and love the magical description of Ben's trip. Looking forward to the journey someday even more now.

On another note, I'm saddened that Brandon and Ian have such a strong distaste for anonymous political expression. In an ideal world, we should all be unafraid to have our political opinions next to our names. But this is not that world. Depending on the environment, being ostracized or even hunted after because you expressed a certain political belief, no matter how innocuous, is a very real concern. Brandon already admitted earlier than that to being "a coward" in regard to talking politics on Twitter because he doesn't want to lose followers who purposefully avoid politics. It's a completely understandable sentiment, but although Brandon may not have to be concerned for his well-being, it can get worse than that for some people. Much much worse. Like Luckey-style internet-wide public shaming. Or lifelong friends suddenly disowning you. Or people calling your employer and saying whatever it takes, including nasty falsehoods, to try and get you fired. Even if it doesn't work, knowing that such an attempt was made would still be a harrowing experience. Since Brandon likes to have context before placing any value in an anonymous post, here's a little bit I'm willing to share about myself. When I created this Patreon account not too long ago for the sole purpose of being able to ask EZA questions in hopes that they'd be read on-air, I was given a prompt that encouraged me to put my real name on it. I thought long and hard about it, but decided to go with creating a pseudonym because I wanted the flexibility of expressing myself without the threat of vindictive people going after my livelihood for having an ostensibly wrong political opinion. I'm now glad I went with that decision, because if I had used my real name, I would've never dared to make these two posts. I even find what I've said here to likely be enough for some people to assume the worst of me, and it only takes one willing person out of them to subsequently try to do me harm. And even now, I still somewhat worry I might somehow be traced anyway. Or that I'd get banned from here for being as frank as I've been. I can name several prominent online video game communities that would likely do exactly that, deleting my posts at minimum. It's an awful thing to have to be worried about, and I wish we didn't have to be so afraid of having such things happen to us. With EZA being as new as it is, one of my biggest hopes is that it never resorts to culling its own community for ideological purity like those places have. It took me some time gathering the courage to make these posts, but I really think it's a perspective you should consider. Love and Respect.

I appreciate your attempt at being more moderate in regard to Palmer Luckey, especially in comparison to what's been said by other internet personalities and media outlets. "Love and Respect" is certainly a commendable mantra to have. However, I still can't help but feel like you are still too willing to assume the worst of Luckey and repeatedly accuse him of "spreading hate" for what amounts to attempting to fund anti-candidate political campaign ads, a very typical occurrence for all sides in any given election cycle. It seems to me that the main reason why this exposé is considered to be such a big issue is because the Californian tech industry and surrounding media can't stand the idea a politically-active conservative rising amongst their ranks. This is compounded further by their honest belief that Trump is of Literally Hitler status, thereby assuming that anyone who would even consider supporting him is a Nazi. It's unfortunately all too common for someone to say that they're "on the side of love", but then use that sense of righteousness to gladly spread hate towards those they think are "on the side of hate", usually their political opponents. So by insisting that Luckey himself is spreading hate, you're in a way inviting others to hate him because he's now been labelled as an acceptable target, even if you didn't intend on doing so. Like many, I'd prefer for EZA to avoid such political topics altogether. If it comes down to it, however, then for the sake of Love and Respect for all, I humbly request that you have more empathy for your political opponents and understand how those "on the side of love" can still end up spreading hate.

I actually like Ian, I don't agree with him, but he believes what he says and he puts himself out there so I respect that. But I have to wonder, how is equating the possible election of Trump to an A bomb going off and than comparing said election with a possible "hitler scenario" not being hateful or spreading fear?

I really like you guys and I agree that consumers should vote with their wallets. Therefore I'm going to cancel my Easy Allies patron contribution since I can't stand Ian bringing up his political and ideological believes in litereally every show he appears on. If he could contain it to Easy Update it would be totally ok, but having yet another _game related_ discussion ruined by him bringing up feminism, racism or something else every time he is a guest just takes all the fun out of it for me.

I don't think this story would have existed if he had just donated money to a political cause. The story comes from the harassment and abuse that the site and his account have been attributed to.

I dont agree with nimble america or organizations like that but i love the liberal hypocrisy over this, that side invented paid trolls, astroturf, etc. If he donated 10,000 to media matters were not even having this discussion. My preference is leave politics out, its a losing situation, your just going to alienate one side or the other.

I think that the topic of the HOTTAKE fits well within EZA's realm of influence. It was an amazing discussion and I agree with you all on the most important aspect: Love and Respect. On the topic on whether artist's political ideologies or actions can affect your opinion on them I feel like I deal with that a lot with music. I am a metal head and listen to everything from old classics like Black Sabbath to new experimental bands like Ne Obliviscaris or Slice the Cake. That being said I only ever want to see Megadeth perform as a support act, and I refuse to buy their recent work. Not because it is entirely bad music (it is about a 6/10) but because of the inane comments that Dave Mustaine likes to spout off. When they play support shows like at Ozzfest or The Big 4 they put on a great set and completely avoid political rants. However, I saw them headline once and I ended up not enjoying it much at all. Mustaine went on some dumb rant and they played a lot of the new tracks that went with the mentality.

I'm glad that EZA is mostly free from politcs and I can't praise you guys enough for that, but I had to stop watching the podcast after a few minutes into the the HOTTAKE section because I just don't want to listen a podcast about that.

I'm with Huber 100% with using games as an escape from politics. As a politically driven person I see it everywhere and really like not having it front and center of gaming. I would only accept it in games if it was designed to flesh out both sides of an issue rather than a one sided we good they bad story. We already know how that's working on social media as everyone has their one sided conversation aiming at people who have no interest in changing their mind at that time (other venues are a good platform for meaningful discussion). As a one shot conversation here it's OK but I've left many sites in the dust due to too many click bait, lecture driven political topics. Nice episode. Keep it up Ben and crew. PS: I think Ian wrote his next easy update by making a shaky camera bit.

Great job Allies. Wish people would just relax and enjoy life more often, and stop focusing on how to hurt others. We spend so much time hurting each other that we forget empathy and logic. Like wounded dogs we lash out at perceived attacks. Things are moving towards a better place in society, more accepting and understanding. It just doesn't seem like it yet, but it feels awful now cause as things change for the better, stubborn and "set in their ways" people lash out even louder. That goes for both sides of any issue. Best thing to do it work with empathy and reason. Things are easier than they seem, we often build obstacles as a defense. Love and respect to all.

Hi allies. Regarding the hotake, I think the shrug is not the solution. I understand the fear to speak up, but influential people do have a responsibility because of their reach. You can rationalize and say that the only relationship you have with companies is through money, so you don't buy the products of hateful companies or people, but that simply is not true. You not buying is your own prerogative, but that is only one sale less, it does not make your voice heard, it doesn't help the people being mistreated, it doesn't influence others. I don't know if you are familiar with this poem by Martin Niemöller, but it sums up all I'm trying to say: First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out— Because I was not a Socialist. Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out— Because I was not a Trade Unionist. Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out— Because I was not a Jew. I've been enjoying playing the early access build of Divinity 2 on PC, but it's plagued with game-breaking bugs. For example, any gold my character just doesn't appear when I go to trade. It certainly gives a compromised look at the game, though I know from the studio's past game (original sin) that they won't rest until such bugs are gone. What is the panel's take on developers taking the idea of a demo, making it something you buy, and using it to show off their game before it's ready? Do you support the trend of early access? Or does it encourage developers to put less polish on the finished product?

Thanks for re-recording guys. Not sure if I "get" Inside. It's being praised like hell, but I just see an "okay" game. I even gave it a pretty good shot (turned off the lights, turned up the speakers, played with my partner who watched on; as if it were a movie). Granted, I'm only half way through, so maybe the ending is the thing that really pushes it into greatness. But as for now, it's just a nice stroll, but nothing amazing. Some pretty bland sections and puzzles which drags on for a bit too long, but nice animations and tone. But I definitely don't see how this how this is GOTY status. But I'll see when I finish it.

Really enjoyed the discussion today. I don't care for Palmer Luckey, but whether it's him or someone like Ian who I respect and enjoy, I don't see the need to boycott or shame anyone over a difference of opinion. I share Jones's trepidation for discussing political topics online, which doesn't speak well for the state of our society. Understanding comes through dialogue, not isolation.

I gotta agree with this. Even though Kyle and Don are great at creating bits and Huber has some great comedy through repetition, Ben is always that sleeper cell that can immediately deck you out of nowhere with a simple, well timed line.

However, I remember the second film making me nauseous because they had discovered that swinging the camera wildly around made the fights look "cooler". Ugh. Please stop. PS. I just want to say I am very happy with where the discussion regarding palmer lucky. This is my first real time commenting on the podcast but I wanted to go out of my way to just talk about how at first I got really worried that y'all didnt really get it. As if I remember clearly what lucky was saying was going straight to downright hate agasint groups of people and just showing a true awful side of him, when the first the disscussion was talking about directors or artists being kind of rude people when the two arent even the same. What lucky was doing was some downright evil shit, with him being the face of a company its pretty easy to look at oculus now and just say no and personally I wouldve just gone off on a rant about him and or people of the type. Where here you all clearly understand and respect everyones point of view (unless downright stupid and hateful) and was able to really look at all the areas of it and it discuss it all in a calm manner. Also super happy to hear that huber was the one to bring up the point of the difference between mean director and person spreading hate. I really honestly believe this will be the downfall of oculus as due to the fact that the man child palmer lucky has really put himself in the front of the company and its hard to seperate the two at this point and will be happy to see the fall off

On the Palmer Lucky thing - the separation of Art and Artist is one I've grappled with for a long time, primarily because my favourite book of all time is Ender's Game. And the most confusing part about it is that the book itself is so damn empathetic, and yet Orson Scott Card is a raging homophobe. So it's something I've struggled with for a long time, and it's too bad we missed Huber's take, because it's one of the reasons I disagree with him whenever he talks about "Creator's Intent". Another great example of this is Lovecraft. He is responsible for so much inspiration in horror, but he was just 100% racist, and it came through in his writings. And not only is it present, but it's directly inspired by it. On the social media thing - I rarely ever post a political thing onto Facebook in particular because 99.9% of the time it only makes people who agree with me feel good, and make people who disagree with me angry. When has anyone ever been convinced of something online? Hardly ever. I'll happily engage in person, but nobody's moving sides online.

"It's not about the journey, it's about the end" is exactly how I felt about playing through the Xenosaga series, getting through the first two games is rough, but when you get to the third game with everything that has been guilt up you get some really great payoffs, and the ending was really satisfying.

man Ian killed it with his fight scene critique. Fight choreography is so awesome and impressive when done well, this idea that you can replace it with quick confusing cuts is the worst. Even with the editing the fights in Batman look slow, clunky and uncoordinated.

Haha love overcooked, me and my girl played it for a few hours and I noticed that the next time we put groceries in the car we had a better connection and teamwork. Its such a difficult game and fun. Great Game
