Besides one awkward laughing scene and the part that involves some pyrotechnics, the movie unexpectedly held up for me. I loved it. It was so different from modern movies. One of the best nights that I have had, watching a movie with my dad.

2016-10-01 05:00:09 +0000 UTCMy favorite western by far is The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford. It's so lyrical, beautiful, and has a wonderful score. Casey Affleck and Sam Rockwell are incredible and Roger Deakins was robbed at the Oscars. Also check out Appaloosa (Ed Harris and Viggo Mortensen are amazing) and Open Range: it's way too long, but the buildup is great and the last 45 minutes are incredible. My favorite "Modern Westerns" are No Country for Old Men (probably the best movie of that decade), The three Burials of Melquiades Estrada, and the recently released Hell or High Water!
