Destiny 2 Reveal Impressions

I was optimistic for the launch of the original Destiny. Then I found myself skeptical of Destiny 2 as I walked in to yesterday’s reveal. Having played 3 different modes, with Michael Huber, I’m getting those warm, Bungie-feelings again. Here’s our quick impressions before we get more details, and more people’s hands, on Destiny 2 at E3.

All of the campaign footage you see is from the trailer released by Bungie. All of the strike footage is me playing on a PlayStation 4 Pro. Hopefully we'll have time to get an EZA Clan organized at launch. That would be swell.

I logged 1000's of hours in Destiny on X1 and PS4 and I have to say, this is just a large expansion. But I also understand the need to restart and bring in new players. Fortunately I got my buddies I played with to build PC rigs so I will be enjoying unlocked frame rate albeit at the cost of having to wait past 9/8. Hope whatever Destiny accolades they decide to reward original players will still be redeemable for those us who chose to switch to PC.

He addressed it on Twitter, Jones just had a brain fart. https://twitter.com/TrailerJones/status/865968866777681920

The usernames of your teammates in the strike are beautiful.

Hey allies! I'm surprised no none has mentioned this in the comments as it's doing the rounds on neogaf. Brandon outright says that red dead redemption is coming out a week after destiny near the end of the video...

Did you get to play more than 1 campaign mission ? I'm curious to know if the game is more fluid now instead of always going back to a menu between story missions.

I'm cautiously optimistic about the game. I thought Destiny 1 was pretty fun, but it didn't hook me. I did about half of Taken King, which was an improvement. It's hard to go back and play it now since none of my friends are playing anymore and I don't want to go through raids with randos. I am excited for the PC release this time though. I'm not good at shooters with a controllers, though I will say that Destiny 1 played very well for a controller.

Destiny 1 was a serious addiction that I had to give up. I forced myself to, there's too many other games to play etc and I was doing the same thing over and over again anyway but damn it's such a fun game. I can't get sucked into Destiny 2. Can I?

I'm excited for D2, even if it is just more of the same but better. Also, congrats on 44k! Almost to 45!

Input One

So just a couple comments since I'm one of those people who put in too much time (well over 3000 hours into Destiny T_T) . The PvP changes to me seem to stem from many complaints of the PvP focused portion of the community. Many of the better PvP players would insist in their commentaries on livestreams or youtube videos that the 6v6 modes just ended up being too chaotic and often times crucible map sizes were too small to handle the mobility granted to players. Shotguns and close range combat have been the dominant playstyle of the crucible, and larger maps never solved those issues or help ed to enforce longer combat ranges. (I would say there is an issue where the larger maps were also just not amazingly well designed) It was often said by vocal portions of the community, "if you want a fair challenge and a PvP that has flow and makes sense/isn't a chaotic mess, you do not play the 6v6 queues/game modes" and to an extent that was the idea that really cemented itself throughout the community. You couldn't really expect to have a great time, nor in 6v6 PvP there were typically no 'heroes' of the match that would carry through when teams fell behind, but the oppression of encountering a full group of 6 players in a single party was too hard to overcome for smaller groups and made the experience kind of wild. Much like Bungie stated at the event, there's a heavy focus coming from them for a competitive environment. However, as someone who's been steeped in the environment, the loss of the 6v6 modes/queues I think is a big blow to casual jump in play. It seems like they very much want to steer Destiny towards a more controlled and competitive PvP ecosystem, though their biggest enemy is not the game modes or map design but rather the weapon balance of the season and how random it is to acquire top tier armaments. Sometimes the only reason people lose in the crucible is that the guy at the other end has a strictly better gun, and the perks matter more than most expect. I'd actually hope that I could have multiple clan memberships as I've played with my clan for a solid 3 years since D1 launch, I'd also love to play with the community here as well and hopefully not be forced to choose one or the other.

Did you guys know the game being on battle.net store, it can be bought with World of Warcraft Gold since that can now be converted to battle.net credit? It's even confirmed by Blizzard http://blizz.ly/WelcomeDestiny2

I will be keeping an eye out for said clan! As a Guardian with 1,600 hours of experience in Destiny, I would love to be able to play with/sherpa EZA guardians through whatever challenges Destiny 2 throws at us. I'd have to leave the clan I founded in Destiny 1, but I think they'd understand. ^_^ How did the game look on PS4 Pro? Any better now that they've dropped PS3 support? You mentioned that it looked amazing on PC, but I'm planning on staying with PS4 because it's where I met all of my Destiny 1 friends and because I'm awful at keyboard and mouse gaming.
