Friend Code - Comic-Con, EVO, & July News Wrap-Up

First time guests Ian Hinck and Brandon Jones join the discussion about San Diego Comic-Con, EVO, June NPD, amiibo functionality in Metroid: Samus Returns, the possible end of Miiverse, the rumored Nintendo 64 Classic, and more.

Note: I messed up and lost the SD card from the camera so that is why there is no camera shot of us this time. I tried to cover up as much of the episode with other footage, but there are a few spots where I just use the show logo to cover the gaps. Hopefully this turned out okay in the end.

Great episode guys. It was a pity the footage was lost, but nice work with the b-roll. Damiani I am 100% with you on the Amiibo stuff, actually that part of the episode made me laugh, because you guys came up with better solutions in 5 minutes than Nintendo have in almost 3 years of doing Amiibo.

Damiani, you should probably use a password manager? Like Lastpass, 1password, Keepass or something like that, so you don't forget you password! :)

Hey Damiani - I'm really liking the show, and I especially love the way you're changing up the format as you see fit from week to week. I'm also really grateful that you guys chatted about the Metroid: Samus Returns amiibo nonsense, because that's the exact kind of bizarre issue that warrants a podcast like this. That said, I would have liked to hear more from Brandon and Ian in this episode. It felt like you held the reins a bit too tightly and didn't let your guests carry the conversation as much as you could have. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy hearing you hold court (especially in a one-man scenario like the Mario 64 episode), but I think it would only improve the show if you took further advantage of the discussion opportunities you've set up. Keep up the good work. L&R

I get the feeling Nintendo is opting to not have pre-orders on the SNES Classic in order to minimize the fiasco from the NES Classic, and that they are deliberately keeping quantity hidden from retailers. I found it odd that Amazon did not have the New Nintendo 2DS XL on pre-order, but did offer same day delivery (some locations, limited quantity) when it was released last Friday. I'm predicting the same will happen with the SNES Classic. EDIT: Never mind. Looks like pre-orders are going to happen in North America at the end of August.

Ogre Battle 64 would be sick on an N64 Classic.

Minamik

Yea, we totally forgot about Smash 64, and when editing it I realized that when I hit the 4-player game part and was like "whoops". So yea, that game would totally warrant 4 controllers.

Easy Allies

You realize the BotW isn't going to look as good as" meme was a meme...right?

Easy Allies

I'm sorry for busting your balls Damiani but "Come on. Come on Square Enix, ya gotta, sometimes everything doesn't need to be visuals." coming from the "Breath of the Wild isn't going to look as good as this." guy is some next level hypocrisy. Could be wrong, but you probably even said it at one point in direct reference to FFXV. I love Breath of the Wild and don't mind how it looks personally, but it's obviously important to others such as yourself.

MBUN

Still in the middle of the podcast but sounds like you guys left out Smash 64, just mentioning it because I think it'll be the real biggest one where you'd feel the lack of 4 controllers over your example of Mario Kart. Maybe add Pokemon Stadium. Other must haves would be Wave Race and Star Fox 64. I think it'd be hilarious if they had rumble packs for the controllers, too

I am so mad that now I have a switch my only option for my digital version of BotW on Wii U is just to leave it to the abyss and pay another £50 for the switch version.

That news regarding the Splatoon 2 voice chat is plain sad. This basically confirms to me that Nintendo will never learn, either from other companies or from their own mistakes. They just do what they want. I feel like they have done so well with the switch since launch, but I really get this bad feeling that this is just going to turn into another Wii. Disappointing to say the least

Damiani, i love you, i love you, i love you, please take this advice; i don't know if there is a word or phrase for it in English, but he keeps repeating the same thing 10 times before making his point, he's not beating around the bush, but... L&R !

Can definitely clarify the Nintendo Online App thing at the start of next episode.

Easy Allies

Can mention it at the start of next episode for sure.

Easy Allies

Hey Damiani, I don't think you guys have a correction/clarification section, but Twitch basically died during Smash 4 finals, so while the viewer count you quoted is likely correct, it's unreliable. I myself just watched a pirate stream on YouTube.

WesFX

Correction : Damiani, the Nintendo Online app doesn't close when you change the app on your smartphone, it pauses. So you're muted and can't hear your friends, but the lobby is still active and you can go back. Also, the App keeps your smartphone screen on, so no "sleep mode" problem. Still a bad app but you gotta be honest with whats working or not... Also, I didn't get why you rant on Microsoft about something you just imagined (about Goldeneye) and has no ground to stand on. Great podcast outside of that : )

Térence Caron

I definitely appreciate experimenting with new ideas for what to show during the podcast, assuming the workload for editing isn't too high. Always fun to mix it up even if your hand was kind of forced in this case.

Bradley Spies

Not sure, but I might just prefer seeing gameplay videos over seeing you guys, haha. Nah, to be honest, the best thing would be a good mix of both. But I like podcasts where I can also see footage of the game you are talking about. I wish the main podcast would do that from time to time.
