EZAnime - Episode 8 "FLCL"

I cut out about two and half minutes of the conversation because we were speculating about the general premise of the upcoming seasons 2 and 3 of FLCL. We didn't realize, however, that Adult Swim has already given a general premise for the show, basically making the discussion pointless and potentially misleading to people not in the know. I didn't want that, so that's why I cut out the very small chunk. I loved the discussion this week and having an anime that is so compact but also so full of material makes this one of my favorite episodes of EZAnime so far! Hearing opinions on the series as a whole, especially one with multiple viewings, always makes for an interesting discussion. I do have one critique and it has to do with the recommendations portion of this weeks show. I don't love having non-anime recs in the discussion. Planet of the Apes has an outlet for discussion in Reaction Shots, video games have their moment all the time but especially in the two video game podcasts with 6 episodes per month to incorporate their discussion. If the movie/game was being brought up as a direct recommendation for the anime discussed, I'd be totally okay with it but having non-anime recs that are totally random (I guess they are fitting for FLCL discussion in their own way) kind of interrupts the episode topic for me and muddies the Anime focus of the show. I get the the panel won't always have new anime to discuss but even recommendations for old favorites are valid. I think non-anime recs really only work if they have context to the discussion.

Yeah, I love FLCL as well. It's the kind of surreal imagery that only animation can provide and that Freud would love to pick apart in a psychoanalytic analysis of all the themes embedded within.
