Tabletop Escapades - Episode 66 "It Had to be Snakes..."

On today's Tabletop Escapades, Pomper says goodbye to a friend and a plan is set into motion.

I'm not especially happy with how this episode turned out. Looking up specific mechanics really slowed things down and I did a poor job of keeping track of turn order. Such problems have been common in Tabletop Escapades and I'm hoping to rectify them in the next batch with some simple remedies. Thanks everyone!!! - Ben

That multi-check for Kyle was a great idea. You should expand on that. E.g. Necator intimidation check brandishing a weapon adds a dex check, Pomper appeal to warriors includes a strength check. Also things have gotten a bit scattered, so maybe try and get the party together, rested (let them complete the rest Ben), and throw them a softball skirmish against a band of cannibals to test out new abilities, figure out the best use of the puffs, and refreshers on mechanics. Let them know beforehand if you'd like, but I think this would help. You could also do it off-camera, little training sesh, X-men danger room style, especially if Kyle has to role a new character.

That is a change I would like to see to TTE. I want Ben to announce the difficulty of the roll before hand. Not necessarily to avoid "cheating" but because it gives awesome tension to the scene. Everyone knows that you have to roll a 15 for example and the reaction on a save or fail is great.

The way Yogalla's roll were set up is almost ridiculous. Total expected number of those four dices is 21 and DM didn't said a threshold beforehand. So even if all rolls are bad (chances of which are really small) DM can still give a free pass. Ben, it's OK to kill beloved characters near the end of the story. Especially if they done something stupid. We live in post Game of Thrones era, we can handle it. P.S. Kudos to Kyle for staying true to RP.

Pretty sure it will be the end of an era. Didn't look like nat 20 looks to me

To be fair, many many DnD sessions can lag because of the structure of the rules. There's a lot of cross referencing that goes on and the DM certainly won't have an encyclopedic knowledge unless they're very experienced. Unfamiliarity with the rules leads to a lot of fast and loose play which works very well for the length of TTE, but I'm glad to see you guys focusing more on the rules as written. A lot of the times it won't matter if you fudge a rule for the sake of convenience, but there have definitely been instances in the past where it gives the players an unintentional dis/advantage. Frankly I thought the episode was great, especially Pomper's RP bit and the cliffhanger! Ben, your ability to adapt to the wildly changing and unpredictable circumstances of each session is super impressive. Keep up the awesome work.

No worries, Ben! I don't mind if things don't go exactly like you want it as long as you guys strive to improve in the future! :) It's only when you stop caring that it's a problem. :D
