AIUI, it is only done across a single half of the brain. we used to do cross-hemispherical ECT which was pretty damaging. anyway, I made the joke about electroshock therapy and was dressed down by someone who used it on refractory depression that was unresponsive to therapy for >30 years. they'd even recommend it for a child if it were to help..
