PAX West 2017 Panel - “A Crowdfunded Story”

This year we hosted our first panel at PAX West, “Easy Allies: A Crowdfunded Story.” It’s a look at some of the biggest lessons we’ve learned in 1 and 1/2 years of operation, and a collection of some (hopefully) amusing behind-the-scenes stories. Starring myself, Kyle Bosman, and Ian Hinck, it took place in the Sasquatch Theater on Sunday, September 3rd at 12:30 PM.

Thank you to everyone that made it out in person, but if you missed it, here’s the best recording we could put together. We managed to get the audio direct out from their board and the camera was positioned far away, but we captured the whole thing. Because of the poor quality, we're posting this exclusively on Patreon, and not on our YouTube channel. So use this link if you want to share.

Let us know what you think, and if you have ideas for what we could put together next year.

PAX West 2017 Panel - “A Crowdfunded Story”

I think the biggest hurdle is they're not all together in an office anymore. It would be yet another thing to do on Tuesdays. Maybe they could decide the list during their livestream and produce the video later.

I like the question asked about countdown lists, it brings to mind how these lists help introduce people to new things or things that they might have overlooked. Given the difficulties in doing a countdown, maybe making a minified version like a "top 5 countdown of the month" would be a doable/manageable idea?

This is SUPER late (and I hope this hasn't already been brought) but I've been thinking about The Hall of Greats and how I can't get enough! I just can't wait every few months for only 2 new inductees. What's especially worse is when The 9 go with obvious picks (like in the last episode) that we all know should be inducted straight from the start. What if, just get the ball rolling, The 9 chose a franchise (e.g. Legend of Zelda, Final Fantasy) and decided on 1 entry in the series to be inducted, then move on to another franchises for the following episode. I can see Jones pulling for FF VI/III while others are screaming about IX and VII. I love the presentations with questions at the end, but I love the group discussions even more and it's hard to argue and only pick 2 games when OoT, FFIX, HL2, Portal and SoTN are on the table. Anyway, just a thought, I still very much enjoy the current Hall of Greats episodes, but it's going to take a long time before we have all the obvious games out of the way. L&R

Love and Respect. Like, one of the best things about GT and like the Mandatory Update fast and loose episodes, I felt like I was sitting in one of my usual friend hangouts. I felt like I knew the people there very well and was just chilling with the crew as I did IRL. It's great to have EZA around.

Star Tsurugi

Great Panel guys love and respect. oh and uh easy update nights please maybe ? one day one day night?

John Wingate

Thank you so much for recording this panel! It was really nice of you guys to pull the curtains back a bit and give us a peek backstage into your guys' inner workings. I hope the community continues to grow and you all continue to expand upon the lessons you've learned to make it even better!

Wish I could've been there for this, but I love how candid you guys always are with this awesome train of hype and love. Here's to more and more years with you guys!

ZyloWolfBane

$60,000 top 10 countdown tier perhaps? Would be enough for the studio.

Joey and Cait

I'm in the longer is better camp. As long as it is also dense. I'm satisfied 😉😉😉

Mikehook1

Wish I could come, had a Saturday pass only. Thanks for uploading this!

Chris K

Guys, Boxpeek has got me so excited, I literally went up a tier because of the potential to see you guys do more like that! Stepping outside the box, you guys are just getting better and I'm happy to be a part of the movement!

Rhodesiensensical

Yup, this was great and good meeting a couple of you in person. Thanks again for the awesome content!

A little disappointed you didn't sing the theme song again, but otherwise good panel

Thanks so much for putting this up!

John Price

Thanks for posting this!

Ian Alexander

glad to support you since day one even from far away :)

I loved this! Thank you guys, and keep kicking ass.

Tegan Combatti

Super cool!

There is tons of content variety as far as length goes. Reviews, Don't Skips, Huber Syndromes, Easy Updates, Previews. Probably more I'm missing. Those are all generally short and easy to digest. And why do you feel you have to watch a Frame Trap in one go? I personally listen on Soundcloud and it's super easy to toggle it on and off while I'm multitasking. I do the same for Fiasconauts, TTE, Podcast, Friendcode. Try it out!

Easy Allies baby!

ZatVunDoot

Thanks for posting this! Was great to watch.

Would love to have come! Please visit the UK some time <3

Great panel. Really enjoyed watching it.

Whiskeyjack

Very interesting panel. I do agree with the questioner who suggested more easily digestible videos. Everyone loves an epic stream, but Easy Allies is now part of my daily entertainment regime, so it's difficult to keep up with some of the longer videos. I'd personally really like a greater variety in show lengths, from 10 minutes, 30 minutes.....up to 1hr plus. Maybe something like Frame Trap can be posted in two installments, personally I don't have the time to watch 3hr's or more in one go, unless it's on the weekend.

This is great and should be listed

Ibrahim Sozer

Great stories and what a success! Thanks for all the entertainment you guys provide and the wonderful community.

As an Anarchist, nothing makes me happier and more supportive than to hear that you guys have adopted a direct democracy rather than a hierarchical structure. Great vid!

Love you guys. Very happy to be able to see this afterwards!

Backlog Crusader

Zach Quest Maikranz

Guys; srsly.... thank you

Randy Verschueren

Thanks for posting! Looking forward to seeing something like this live soon.

Kevin Weaver

Could have watched this for hours. Only thing i'd like to add is that i would love for you Kyle, to have "your own thing" again. Your views for games and everything game related are so unique and different and they offer (to me at least) new ways of seeing things in a different light. I miss that a lot. Dons discount gaming was so, so good in this regard too. So yeah, great panel, keep doing what your doing and as allways: l&r

r3k

although you could probably pass this off as a pseudo Cup of Jones so it's fine like this too!
