Resident Evil 2 - It did everything right and gave us a incredible as well as memorable game experience. You can not ask for more.

Haven't played all the games, but from those that I have played, it's definitely Resident Evil 2. Shoutout to Hollow Knight that I finally played this year. A strong contender for game of the decade, IMO.

Big shout out to AI: The Somnium Files! I know it probably won't crack the top 10, but its touching narrative made it my favorite experience last year in video games.

I entered Outer Wilds--a game that deserves GOTY as well as a Hugo and a Nebula. That little solar system rewarded every question I asked, and boy did I ask a lot. Can't say enough about the unique puzzles, progression, and traversal. To describe what I did in the game would be to spoil it. Oh man, but that ENDING. I really enjoyed Fallen Order, Control, and Three Houses. But in each case, the ending left me underwhelmed. For all three, technical and narrative shortcomings marred what were otherwise solid experiences. The Outer Worlds felt too tedious to finish. Since the game clearly wasn't for me, I won't diss it. Still working on Death Stranding. Haven't gotten to Disco Elysium, Sekiro, or Plague Tale, but will soon. That leaves Outer Wilds--the perfect story within the perfect puzzle world. I'd actually quibble with the philosophy expressed here and there in the game, but I can't deny that those themes came through well. Rarely can I say that a game had a clear message--something beyond "corporations are bad," "terrorists are bad," or "nazi space wizards need a hug." Looking forward to hearing the community's take.

I chose The Outer Worlds as well. So many people, far more than usual have played this game 2-3 times, which in an era where most people don't even finish most games, knowing so many played a RPG 2-3 times is probably the best argument The Outer Worlds could have for being GOTY 2019.

This is off-topic, but the "never fails to disappoint" portion of your comment sent me down a rabbit hole of grammar, misnegation and all sort of instructive reading, which I always appreciate. However, as hard as I try, I still can't think of it like a positive, even if it might actually be a misnegation - some people agree saying it's correct, while others disagree saying it's incorrect. To me, it reminds me of the phrase: "never fails to deliver", which is a positive thing. Therefore, if I'm thinking with the same logic, than "never fails to disappoint" would imply a negative thing. I have definitely heard both in movies and TV shows before, with the "never fails to disappoint" sentence always having a negative connotation. Though, if I'm wrong, I would love to be corrected. Always looking to learn more. L & R

I really had to think hard which game I would pick between RE2 and The Outer Worlds. I enjoyed my time with both but I played The Outer Worlds twice, and I only played RE2 once (Leon A Claire B). So my GOTY is The Outer Worlds.

For me it's Crash Team Racing, solely because it was my most played game by far. It was supposed to be an affordable romp down memory lane with a few new touches here and there, and instead it grabbed me so intensely that I was playing every day and practically forgot other games existed. It was far from perfect, but the amount of stuff they added (characters, tracks, etc.) and the quality of the additions impressed me so much that I now consider this the definitive way to play CTR (which speaks higher praise than what I can convey here). And despite the microtransactions, geometry errors and online issues, it felt like Beenox was trying its best to address problems under its jurisdiction. I had never joined a discord or fallen deeply into an active online community before, but CTR was that first time for me. Feeling true pride in tense online matches, mastering turns for Time Trials, and having a blast in local races were emotional highlights of the year for me, and Adventure mode took me right back to being a kid again. I don't know if other people feel the same way, but goddamn did CTR make my 2019 that much brighter. Here's hoping there are more gleaming gems like it in 2020!

Outer Wilds easily. Sekiro? Great but iterative. Fallen Order? Fun but derivative of other games. RE 2? A polished game we've already played. Outer Wilds is so perfect in it's vision and execution and deserves to win because this game unlike any other this year, will shape the standard for games and game systems going forward.

Fellow allies, I submit to you for Game of the Year Luigi's Mansion 3. Despite the incredible slate of games we received this year from Studios all over the world, Luigi's Mansion 3 was pure, uncut Colombian fun. There is no game that loved its own existence more than Luigi's Mansion 3 this year, and you can feel the passion and heart the developers put into the game. This was absolutely my most fun experience of the Year and I wish it would get a little more recognition. Love and respect!

I submitted Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. If you'd told me that EA would put out a legitimately great single player Star Wars game with no microtransactions, I would have called you a liar, but Respawn has delivered exactly that. It has some technical issues at times, but the game mixes elements of Dark Souls and Metroid Prime into a great story-driven Star Wars experience that surprised me with how much I enjoyed it, and stands as not only my favorite Star Wars media of 2019, but also my personal favorite game of the year.

Judgment was my submission as well. I was really skeptical if they'd manage to do a new IP using the same environment and some of the same systems from Yakuza and make it feel different enough, but thankfully I was blown away. I think Judgment has one of the best cast among RGG Studio games, and I was genuinely surprised by how great the story was. I love all the new systems (well maybe not all of the tailing missions) and the dub was incredible. As an old time Yakuza fan playing Judgment with dub was one of my guilty pleasures of 2019 haha Anyway, it was a really close call between Judgment, DMC5 and RE2 for me, but overall Judgment is my game of the year. I can't wait for Yakuza: Like a Dragon.

Fire Emblem: Three Houses was the first ever Fire Emblem game I finished, and never got bored of. In fact, it held on to me and made me play game after game after game for a few weeks. For that surprise, I'm choosing it as my GOTY.

For me it’s The Legend of Heroes Trails of Cold Steel 3. I urge all allies to at least check this series out especially if you love rpgs. This series is doing something special that no other series has done and it deserves attention.
