Cup of Jones - September 7, 2020 - Audio

Our Patreon numbers have been fluctuating downward, and it’s rightfully causing some distress among members of our community. One of them raised some issues regarding the drop and I’m hoping my response today can clarify where the team is at when it comes to generating new types of content you might have expected at this point if we weren’t dealing with a pandemic and unable to return to our studio. Despite my apparent ease at dismissing suggestions from the community, stuff like this always makes me try to re-evaluate the decisions that we’re making, and the potential of EZA. I think 2020 has caused all of us to do that with our own personal goals more times than we’d like. To balance the seriousness of a few of today’s questions, I’ll use my Editorial to highlight someone’s video that unfortunately didn’t make it into the September Showcase.

Jones, first of all, thank you for the great work that you and the Allies do. I enjoy the vast majority of it and don't have time for the rest. I would love to see a return of Hunting Huber for an early season 2. Those weekly Wednesday drops are awesome. As soon as they would come out I would click. It also seems like a good show to try to do remote. What are your thoughts? L&R TravelingSnowman

Just FYI, questions need to be posted on the video version if you want them answered. It's probably too late to repost it this week, but just so you know for the future.

Hi Brandon, I've been watching some of the older EZA videos on youtube, and I have been absolutely loving it. Not only is it entertaining, but it puts a whole new context to your friendship and comradery. I was wondering, have you guys explored ideas to resurface these gems? For example, an idea would be streaming them live via Twitch (i.e., EZA time machine Thursday). Not only would it bring great old content to new audiences but let old members re-enjoy the content with a whole new perspective. Imagine the chat dynamic while watching a re-run of the trials of Bosman! L&R, JHK

Hey Brandon. 2nd time listening to this. Sorry, been meaning to tune in at an earlier date but I keep forgetting about it. Let me start this off by saying that I think the reason for the declining numbers is because a lot of people are unemployed right now. My job has been laying people off left and right. At this point we don't even know if the place is going to shutdown or not. That being said, I think some form of restructuring is needed. You went through a lot of the reasons already, but let's look at it from this perspective. I used to give $25, but came down to $20 because I just saw no reason to do so. Even now I'm wondering why give $20 which is not really justifiable (I'm giving because I support you guys. You guys are that good). My perspective is that from the content that I tune into which is Easy Allies Podcast, Frame Trap, Spoiler mode, Q&A, Hall of Greats and GOTY (and now Cup of Jones). Out of all of those, 5 of those are free on YouTube and even then I get a chance to have a question answered on the podcast. I have a chance to have a question answered on Frame Trap which is through email. I get a question answered once every month with Q&A. And then there's spoiler mode which you've already covered. 1 suggestion I can think of is probably doing something more that involves your community. From the majority of the comments I've read here on Patreon I think EZA has one of the better communities around. The majority seems to have a level head on their shoulders. I browse EZA Plays from time to time and the bulk is all of the allies are playing single player games or playing couch coop. Have the thought of having people from the community play games with the allies ever come up? Ben used to have Ben's dojo. Haven't seen it lately. I know people would love to join in with Huber on some raids in whatever. Those could be tiers whereas shows like spoiler mode should be made public imo. Love and respect

Small fry here, but upped mine to $5. I know it’s not much, but it’s all I can contribute for now.

I've been meaning to mention a thought I had about the podcast. With Kyle gone, Blood taking his permanent spot, and Ian having way less to do without you all being in the studio, there are essentially THREE co-moderators (you, Blood and Ian), and only 4 non-Don allies to swap between the two guest spots. This means 3 voices we hear every week and a lot of repeats. It got me to thinking: could either Blood or Ian go on rotation rather than being there every week? Nothing against either of them, but this would free up a little more time for one of them to do other things. The thought came while walking my dog and listening to the podcast: there was an episode where I actually FORGOT that Blood was on the show because he didn't speak for about twenty minutes... and then it happened AGAIN in the same podcast with one of the others! Also or alternatively, would it be too crazy for you to take a break once every two or three months and let your co-moderator(s) moderate the podcast to give you a bit of freedom?

Just upped mine to $3. I know there isn't a tier but all good. Keep on going and producing what you can. Easy Allies is still my fave group and I will always support you guys. Love and Respect.
