Crystal Dynamics has met its match with this ambitious action multiplayer slugfest. It's repetitive and buggy, but it also has an emotionally impactful campaign and a roster that ultimately feels very diverse. Based on the game's roadmap, it will one day be much greater at no cost, but is it worth suiting up now to start the grind?

It's Anthem if you were Iron Man; gameplay doesn't attract anyone but fans of the brand and that is ok.

Like most peopled I enjoyed the campaign well enough, but honestly I was always looking forward to the multiplayer aspect the most. Being a super heroic marvel character in a group is the game's main draw. Personally I'm having a blast playing "Avengers". It's a modern day super hero brawler but, set on a huge scale with decent character depth for each hero; and a lot nuances of tactical & strategic execution for its core gameplay. This is what makes the game really fun because using the “Avengers” as a back drop easily allows the potential for people to live out that bold super hero team-up fantasy to its fullest; even when accompanied by early repetitive level design, generic mission structure and enemy variety for time being. In the near future I like to believe Square-Enix will greatly update Avengers (all for free mind you), securing the game and all proceeding content. If you are cool with that, then "the sky is the limit" in terms of potential fun to be had. With more heroes, missions and consistent improvements on the way I think there is a lot to look forward too for both the multiplayer & single player aspects of the game. So if you are worried if whether or not the game is “good’, please stop, that mentality is pointless. Instead, simply focus on the moment at hand and ask yourself what is (if anything) really my issue with this game…. Then finally just try the game out for yourself, grab some friends too if you want, and then go have fun. If nothing else play with random players and you should still have a good time grinding with all the characters at your disposal. Clearly “Marvel’s Avengers” is not a stellar single player experience like “Spider-Man”, or “Arkham”, but that’s okay, because it’s not trying to be that. Thats not the point of being part of a team, one that shines brightest when heroes stand together. To anyone disappointed by that, I’m sorry you feel that way, but I think there is a lot to enjoy now and going forward. It is what it is. If none of what “Marvel’s Avengers” appeals to you, then maybe "Avengers" is not the game for you. …And that’s okay… But it's a lot of fun for everyone who is playing it. I greatly look forward to this game future, and I hope one day that sentiment is realized for everyone playing, not playing, or hope to play “Marvel’s Avengers” one day.

Having put dozens of hours in with my wife I can honestly say I wouldn't argue with anyone scoring it between 5.5-7.5, but I'd certainly argue if it dipped outside of that range. As a veteran of Warframe, Destiny, The Division and more: I have never encountered a game that I want to enjoy so badly while the game is doing everything in it's power to stop my enjoyment (due to glitches, bugs, crashes, and a plethora of bad game design).
