Film Club Watch Party - Patron Party!
Added 2020-10-13 01:05:51 +0000 UTCHey! As part of the $7+ Film Club tier Huber and Ian will be doing a live commentary track and you can watch along via discord! The movie is a surprise but expect something in the vibe of Halloween (the holiday not the movie franchise.)
Anyone in the $7+ tiers will have access to the discord server that will be created for this watch party, Huber and Ian will talk over a movie that we'll stream to the server. The audio of the commentary will be available afterwards for $7+ patrons forever, but without video.

2020-10-13 08:09:39 +0000 UTCI know I'm not really involved on this one, but I think it's just the nature of the beast. 6 PM Pacific is about the earliest time of day we could do something like this for people in our time zone to be able to focus on watching a film with us after work (not to mention fitting it into the puzzle of our own schedule.) For copyright reasons, we absolutely could not do this on YouTube. Even if we did a Twitch Watch Party, it couldn't be a patron bonus, there still couldn't be a VOD, and there would likely be a number of regions that couldn't watch it there either. The framerate issue is something I imagine you could potentially overcome by accessing a US version of the film via VPN or something? I'm sure it's not the only solution, but I think Ian's done about as well as he can to make this work. -Bloodworth

Watching it live is impossible (it will be middle of the night) and watching VOD will be nearly impossible, because US and European DVDs have different frame rate (so syncing audio and video will be extremely complicated). On top of that, why use some weird service for streaming? If it was Twitch or YouTube I could at least set up my PC to record the stream to watch it later and avoid all that pain. I understand that bonus reward is a bonus and it’s not right to complain about something that I haven’t specifically payed for. I also understand that you can’t design a reward that will please everyone. But it’s very frustrating when one part of your audience needs to jump through a lot of hoops to get the reward, and other part of your audience doesn’t.
