Cyberpunk 2077 - Review

The glitz and glamour of Night City unfortunately doesn't cover up its rampant bug infestation.

Cyberpunk 2077 - Review

Comments

Nicely written Ben...I honestly have been "dipping my toe" into Cyberpunk with PS4 Pro... and it okay...fine... not great... but manageable... ...And the game does seem cool, although my first take away is Cyberpunk is not an industry changing experience; but instead feels like FallOut crossed with Far Cry... But yeah this game (like Avengers) is just meant to be played PC or next gen, and I can happily wait for that.... Until then I will hold judgement, and wait to play this game to it full extent.

I love this game but yeah, it's got some rough edges for sure.

Good choice. And wait til the proper next-gen version too.

I’ll wait until I have a PS5 before playing this game

Well thought out review indeed. There were a lot of good points made that I do agree with more than points that I don't. "You shouldn't have to fight to see greatness" is something I don't often think about in video games. But I'm glad I took the time to see what was wrong on the other side of the fence.

This is a well explained and fair review. I personally would have knocked it down by 1 due the technical issues. This is WWE 2020 levels of fucked up in terms of quality.

The Confident Turtle

Excellent writing and measured analysis. I'm not usually a commenter on reviews but felt it deserved a shout out Ben. Cheers for taking your time with it, it really shows. Jones also crushed it with both the VO and editing. You guys along with ACG are the voices I trust the most with this space of the industry. Integrity, excellence and consistency is worthy of patronage to me. Thanks.

Best in the biz right here

Ya done good Ben, ya done good.

Wouldn't count on it given their past views on re-reviewing a game later, but maybe if Cyberpunk 2077 got a paid Expansion one day, then that could be an excuse to.

Jones has spoken out against that sort of thing in the past, so I wouldn't expect it. The main two points seem to be, no your game needs to be ready and finished when you launch it, and that they don't have the time to revisit games to re-review them even if they wanted to.

MBUN

The "hacking is just hacking" and "stealth is just stealth" criticism makes it seem like Ben was disappointed this massive open-world game in a futuristic metropolis with an absurd amount of hand-made content didn't innovate/renovate every single aspect of video games from the past decade. Take Watch Dogs Legion for example; that is a much smaller, simpler open world than Cyberpunk that is much more focused on hacking gameplay, and yet there are more hacking options in Cyberpunk. According to EZA, Watch Dogs Legion is the better game. I know score comparisons are dumb, but maybe EZA should go the Polygon/Kotaku-route to avoid having their criticism get criticized.

NotJack

Seems like the game will need a second review after a year or two.

Another great review... Looks like I'll be waiting a couple months to see if this game is a bit more stable with some patches.

Bokthand

Not sure if Ben looks at these, but I'd be generally curious to know, in the theoretical world in which this game is bug free (or at least they are so minor as to be of no note) what would your score be, or were the bugs so intrinsically part of your experience that it is difficult to know? Regardless great review, I'm excited to play the definitive edition in 2022.

What a great review.

Finally a decent (and fair) review of Cyberpunk

Nice job, Ben

See You When I Get There

I wonder if reviews will be updated once the performance of the game improves. I am one of the lucky ones with a RTX and almost no bugs. If it runs it is a 9/10 for me. Great review, Ben!

Seems to reflect everything I've seen of this game since release in a way people of all experiences with this game hopefully will accept. As always, thanks for pouring everything into these Ben, and my untrained eyes quite enjoyed the cut as well Jones.

MBUN

Great review Ben! Love your articulation and honesty. I look to reviews to keep me informed, while I personally wasn’t too interested in this game to begin with, I’m glad I checked out the review anyway to know exactly what it was and be weary from. Thank you allies! L&R

Ben... prepare to be attacked from all sides. A 7,5 for the most anticipated game of the last few years? It takes courage. As always, you write great reviews. And this seems like a fair and balance judgment.

Miguel Pires Ramos

Ben's reviews became the strongest reviews in the industry. I often watch them several times to learn how to do good writing.

“And our next category is... Best Seven.”

I don't ever really comment on the quality of reviews here (they're pretty much all great), but I have to say, this is a truly well thought out and well measured review. Ben, you do an incredible job of wading through the beast that is Cyberpunk and everything surrounding it and give a very fair account of what the game really is. I'm about 30 hours in on PS5 and I couldn't agree more with your sentiments. Well done!

I have no problems at all on my One X. Really like this game, but I also had realistic expectations.

darkPikachu

Still best in the biz, great review, Ben! I can only read it atm, but I very much enjoyed it, truly a deep dive and an excellent read. Thank you <3 L&R

Monika

Thanks Ben. Checking it out now.
