Submissions for Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity Spoiler Mode
Added 2020-12-03 01:40:55 +0000 UTCHeya!
We will be recording a spoiler mode for Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity tomorrow with Brad and myself joined by special guests Rogersbase and Tris Valbuena of GameXplain. I'd like to field questions from our patrons to drive the discussion, though I fully intend to dive headfirst into the timeline implications of the game, as well as whether or not it lived up to the prequel expectations.

Hey Allies! So, Nintendo revealed this game as a prequel, as an opportunity to witness and experience the events of the calamity that we learned about in Breath of the Wild. Truly though, these aren't the events that lead to BotW and this isn't a true prequel. Part of what made BotW so impactful was that the Champions died and Link and Zelda lost. Hyrule fell to ruin over 100 years without hope. If Nintendo wasn't willing to make a true prequel where we see our heroes fail, should they even have bothered at all? Personally this retelling is as frustrating as the retcon with Demise in Skyward Sword.

2020-12-03 17:23:16 +0000 UTCWere you all disappointed by the direction the story went and do you think Nintendo should have marketed this game differently than a prequel (ie. stating that this was more of a what if and not a canon prequel?)

2020-12-03 16:49:48 +0000 UTCHow do you feel this game's plot will impact Breath of the Wild 2? Do you think there will be any tie-ins to Age of Calamity or will they just ignore it?
2020-12-03 16:22:26 +0000 UTCI was very impressed with the music and cutscenes in this game, do you think it’s a sign of more to come in BOTW 2?

2020-12-03 06:46:48 +0000 UTCHey Allies, with AOC diving deeper into the story, do we think it will be sign of things to come with BOTW2. Or will it be another less story and more exploration again? Big hi to Tris and Roger too love all your vids, keep on being Awesome! L&R

2020-12-03 06:05:47 +0000 UTCHey allies, with how much more interesting Zelda is in this game then Link is, can BotW 2 kill off Link at the start of the game so we can play as Zelda instead?

2020-12-03 05:08:16 +0000 UTCDo you think more Musou fans became Zelda fans or more Zelda fans became Musou fans because of the two Hyrule Warriors games? Just asking because I know Zelda fans that would never have touched a Musou game otherwise and I know Musou fans that just play every Musou game they can get their hands on and have gone on to play and love new franchises that way. Thanks!

2020-12-03 04:58:24 +0000 UTCThere's been a lot of discussion around the game in terms of Link and his role in the story, specifically the fact that he was largely sidelined in the narrative compared to the other characters. Everyone else got to play a much more significant role and got a lot more character development thanks to the fact they were able to actually converse and interact instead of just silently react to things. Zelda in particular really shined from start to finish, while Link spent most of the game as just "the guy who protects the princess". Have we reached a point where Link's silent pantomime has become a hindrance to the storytelling, and do you think this game and its reception will finally get Nintendo on board with Link talking?

2020-12-03 04:27:24 +0000 UTCI'm more than content with this tragedy-free pseudo-prequel we wound up getting, but a sticking point for me that sours the climax is Calamity Ganon. His straightforward appearance and lackluster fighting style feel more akin to just needing a tangible final boss and unlockable character than something that actually feels appropriate for the game. Either Harbinger Ganon or a malice-corrupted Astor seem as thought they could have been a better fit for this alternate tale with a little more development. How does the panel feel about our final villain, and did anyone bother going the distance to unlock ol "Malice Akuma" before signing off?

2020-12-03 02:26:07 +0000 UTCCan I recommend this in good conscious to my casual friends who loved breath of the Wild?

2020-12-03 02:24:03 +0000 UTCWhat thoughts did you experience as soon as the credits started rolling? Personally, I felt satisfied by the gameplay but extremely dissapointed that the ending to this game was so different than what Breath of the Wild suggested a prequel would include. I am wondering if you had similar thoughts, but if you did not, then I would love to know what you thought and felt as soon as the credits began to roll.
2020-12-03 01:55:09 +0000 UTCWas this game a bait and switch? It was so heavily marketed as a prequel to BOTW but its not really relevant at all to the story or events of that game. Everything just gets retconned that this story doesn't even mattery going into BOTW2. It just seems like Nintendo chose fan service over telling a meaningful story.

2020-12-03 01:52:19 +0000 UTCWhat was the big moment you didn't expect, but really should have? For example, I didn't expect the Blood Moon in the penultimate mission, but it's such a major part of Breath of the Wild that I feel I should have. .
