Cup of Jones - April 5, 2021

More goodies are rolling out this week from the goals we hit during EZX ‘21, like Ben’s spending spree in Genshin Impact, the Patriot watch party for Amazon Prime members, and the Super Mario Bros. Spoiler Mode. Year 6 of EZA is well underway but we should be experiencing the benefits of that event for a while. It’s difficult to find openings in our schedule for added shows and streams these days with stuff still wrapping up like Mindful Games and Mini-Game Champions. It’s hectic, but it feels good being this busy knowing it’s because of the support from our dedicated community.

Hey Jones, Suggestion to add guest for Hall of Greats. It would be great to have Ben from MinnMaxx or Jyle Josman bring a game such as Arkham Asylum or Mega Man Legends and add to the discussion. This way the Hall of Greats could be industry wide and not just EZA. It would be great to get Greg Miller to try and convince you guys that Patapon deserves to be one of the greats. Thanks iboshow

Hopefully I made it

Could you please consider adding a Trailer Jones Segment to the Podcast. Just a tiny tini one 10mins tops. I miss u and the Allies break down on trailer science.

Hey Jones, I just wanted to give you some thanks. Today I had a pretty tough day. It's my second week back at football practice since the pandemic started, and there's a lot of pressure on us to get back into fighting shape. After 20 minutes, I tore my Quad doing a back pedal and had to watch the rest of practice from the side lines. I watched and tried to keep learning as best I can, but I was very frustrated with my body and myself, nearly to the point of tears. I got home, and booted up ABZU, and really tried to use it as the meditative tool you said it could be, and I got a lot happier a lot more quickly. I'm still sore, but at least I'm not beating myself up about it, so thanks for putting that video together, I really ended up needing it :) Cheers, Harrison

Hi Jones. Slowly but surely, lockdown is going to end all over the world. I think it's realistic to assume that in-person events will return next year. And everybody is talking about the things they want to do when they can go outside and meet other people again. With that said: What does Easy Allies want to do once you can go out again? Is there perhaps a chance that 2022 will be the first time Easy Allies goes to GamesCom? I think I've been pitching this idea since 2017, and I haven't given up on it yet. It would make for great content and is the only chance for many European Allies to ever meet you you guys at a meet-and-greet. I ask now, because experience tells me that if I ask next year, the answer will be that those things have to be planned out long in advance, but maybe you'd do it at some other point in the future. Obviously this would cost money, but I would gladly contribute to a fundraiser for this cause.

Hi Brandon, Thanks for choosing my question in Love and Respect, I didn't realise how excited I was to see if my question made it. I loved hearing where the Allies went with comfort games (Damiani's answer was super interesting and I've just started playing Loop Hero, which is ABSOLUTELY a comfort game - I love it). That got me thinking - it was so fun to have my question picked and it ended up meaning a lot more to me than I realised, particularly as my health hasn't been great recently. I wonder if there are Allies who have never had a contribution picked for the podcast. I know you've alluded to in the past that some people post the same game/comment for multiple weeks, hoping to get it in eventually, and I'm sure you do your best to pick a range of people each week. My Q is this: would it be possible to monitor this somehow? I feel for people who have never had a comment picked, especially as it meant a lot to me. Final very quick Age of Empires point: There was an Age of Empires blowout on Saturday and you guys made the sizzle reel! (Huber as always!) Here's the link: https://youtu.be/BydychCZW3A?t=897 Starts at 14:57. Do you guys get asked for release for this, or is it a surprise? Very excited for this Relic-developed game! Hey Teph, You may have to access this from a browser rather than the Patreon App, but under the My Membership tab on Patreon, there's a link for a personalized RSS feed tied to your pledge. You can add that link directly to the Apple Podcasts app to keep up to date like any other podcast. -Bloodworth

Easy Allies

Heya Jones, I'm sorry, what was that? I can't quite make it out from here. But if Easy Allies was the maid of the large Yorkshire manor at the start of the 1900s, would it prefer to have a fine white horse, a wooden boat, or a chamber maid?

Jonesy Jonesy Jones! ( yes thats a thing now ) Technical question. I use Pateron app on my iphone ( 12 pro ) and 2-3 times a month it will just log me out and i'll lose all the downloaded audio stuff that i have queued up for when im cycling ( its how i consume most content ) or driving in the car. Is there any other way to get patreon specific content on a different player or am i stuck with lackluster patreon ? Also do we know if patreon will ever go on Apple Car play as it'll make choosing stuff alot easier on the move. P.S I'm serious about the chess practicing by the way. Hit me up!

Hey Jones - was watching the Legally Blonde Musical recently and I had to double take when the Professor Callahan character was introduced because he sounded just like you. Took me back to all the times you sing in videos. I didn’t realize how much Broadway influence it had.

Hi Mr. Jones. This is a late for this CoJ, but I was wondering if we would get a review or maybe a first impression of MLB The Show....from Huber? That would be awesome.

Hey Jones, this is just for you so no need to read out. I haven't gotten a chance to catch up on all the EZX video so sadly I missed the mayo thing, but your love for it is reminding me of an older youtube series called "Regular Ordinary Swedish Meal Time", where the host used to enjoy a pre-dinner snack of a spoonful of mayo. Worth a look in if you haven't seen it and are curious of what a Swedish skit of Epic Meal Time is like. L&R Wergiforce

Personal comment : No question here but I'd love crossover gameplay streams with other outlets or even a special guest in a show for example " Achieve it yourself "

Jones, I love ya but I need to say that I really wish you would incorporate a new opening podcast bit. You've alluded to changing Silver Lining out for months now and I would love to start the podcast with something that isn't a news story given 70% of the podcast is news already. The patrons have given so many great suggestions! Would love something that encourages patron creativity and gets the allies laughing early on. Much Love & Respect, - B-Ray

Brandon Ray

If I recall correctly, they considered it at the beginning but stuff like TImeline is just WAY too much work for their team

Hey Mr. Jones! This week’s submission is going to be a lengthy one I’m going to condense, so apologies in advance. From time to time when I have a brief spell of downtime I need to fill where I don’t have a pressing responsibility or not enough time to be playing a game, I tend to go back and rewatch some of my favorite videos EZA has done. Typically, these will be certain reactions, reviews, and particular episodes of Easy Update like Kill Your Babies or Opinion Yell. While I gravitate to these because they fall within my interests, I don’t think I would bring up a large portion of videos to pitch someone on Easy Allies, like an Opinion Yell for how… brash… it is for those not in on the joke, nor something like Game Sleuth or a Retro as those are no longer in production. So, inspired by your last editorial and in conjunction with the diverse amount of content EZA has created or produces, what would you point to EZA has done or is doing to get the full idea of just WHO EZA is as a group to better sell the brand? Personally, I would pitch a grab bag of content to people like: Recommending five reviews to showcase the diversity in score, writer, and length (God of War, Half-Life: Alyx, Fallout 76, Observation, and Days Gone for example) Something to showcase the studio like Mysterious Monsters At least one of the main podcasts between the EZA Podcast, Frame Trap, or Friend Code Two streams (One of the “event” streams like Hall of Greats or Tiermaker and whichever singular stream would be going on that week, be it a single Ally or the Group Stream) At least one show (Easy Update, Huber Syndrome, Mindful Games, the early episodes of Achieve it Yourself, The Gen That Was, etc.) And lastly at least a couple of reactions (the Keanu Reeves Cyberpunk reveal from E3 to further show the studio and one of the two major PS5 Showcases from last year to demonstrate how work from home has impacted EZA). While not everything, I feel these examples cover the breadth of what EZA still produces (publicly at least. None of these touch on the Patreon exclusives), and I wanted to ask what YOU believe would be, for lack of a better description, the “starter kit” of videos for Easy Allies? You do a great job at the close of the Podcasts talking about Patreon, but how would you give that pitch for the actual Allies and content you all produce? Thanks as always for taking the time to go through these and as always, have a wonderful rest of your day! Cheers! QUESTION: Inspired by you going through the tiers on Patreon, I wanted to ask: For people who may not know Easy Allies, what videos or content (a “starter kit” if you will) would you point out to best demonstrate the full idea of who EZA is as a group? You do a great job at the close of the Podcast talking about Patreon, but how would you give that pitch for the content you all produce to entice people to check out more than just a single thing someone can happen upon?

Brandon K Gann

This really isn't a suggestion, just more of a personal hope especially knowing that this was a GameTrailers series. One of my favorite things you guys did was the Timeline series. Specifically The Legend of Zelda one. I know you couldn't/wouldn't be able to use the same name, as well as stating once how much work it took to produce that series. My question is, have you and the guys ever thought about doing something of that fashion again or is it something that just doesn't seem viable content wise for EZA? I would love an updated timeline of LoZ since the original one came out. Love and Respect to you Jones and the rest of the Allies!

Hello, Jones! There is something I noticed in a podcast I listened too recently. It might have been the only time it happened, but just wanted to bring it to your attention.
