Let's get this out of the way first: Spiritfarer is a much longer game than I anticipated. It is deceptively deep, in a good way. The clock runs even longer if you stop and smell the roses, which I certainly did. This game is a bounty of mindful activity. You're always able to move forward, the sun rises and sets each day, and yet your boat seems somehow frozen in time. It's fun to make your boat bigger and stack it with different buildings, but it's also rewarding to stop on an island, or in the middle of the ocean, and appreciate the company and scenery. As Stella says goodbye to each passenger, I also feel a trace amount of gratitude and sorrow as I put this game down and move on to the next. I'm glad I got to spend time with it after not making that time in 2020.
