Mindful Games - Ghost of Tsushima

Video Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hjVJvEJsS8A

Most of the examples of mindfulness in Tsushima are so obvious, the game's influence on the subject speaks for itself. Even with just keeping the footage to the first part of the island, and the first chapter of the game (to avoid spoilers), I encountered multiple hot springs, shrines, and haiku locations. One of the reasons I love open-world games so much is you can typically experience them at whatever pace you prefer, but Tsushima frequently encourages you to take it slow and really think about what you're doing. This pertains to Jin's overall quest to win the war and liberate the island, but also to each combat encounter and character interaction. It's great to see an action game like this commit to such a calming mood of focused intent, even with so many tragic things happening all around. Day or night, you never have to go far in Tsushima to find a breathtaking view that begs to be appreciated with a gentle breath and a clear mind.

Mindful Games - Ghost of Tsushima

Comments

Although it has some horror aspects, Subnautica is a great contender for this series!

allahmuhalla

Reminded me of all the times while playing i would stop and just take the world in, so beautiful and serene.

Jones, I love this series! Fantastic work. Would love to hear your take on Valheim. The meditative aspects of 'busy work' like chopping wood, sailing, farming etc. I also play a lot of Satisfactory. It takes a lot of time to build anything in that game but the satisfaction (ha!) is enormous. The environments, music and gameplay are very relaxing

This is absolutely wonderful.

Really digging this Jones. Excellent work.

The Witness was that one for me. I would literally do nothing and soak in that environment between puzzles. The videos in the windmill theater. Gangaji, etc. <3

The second half of the video isn't my thing, but really enjoy how the first half helps identify the ways you can find more relaxing activities in games. Nice job Jones.

Harrison Holt-McHale

Hey Jones, might I suggest Death Stranding for a future episode. This game has more than enough places where you could just sit down and unwind.

Amazing video love this series can’t wait for the next

Jones, that was so beautiful. I knew I was gonna like it, this project is right up my alley, but for whatever reason it hit much harder than expected. I breathed in and out and during those final scenes I teared up. What an amazing first episode (for me lol as I watched it before Valhalla). Looking forward to the stream (btw thanks for the EU-friendly time!) with meditation. Thank you so much. L&R
